About Saravanaa Bhavan East Ham

Saravanaa Bhavan East Ham is a South Indian vegetarian restaurant at 300 High St N in London. The menu centres on dosas, including the paper dosa and the masala dosa, and every dosa comes with sambar and three chutneys: coconut, green chilli and red chilli. Filter coffee is available alongside the food. The dining room is large, with a spacious layout and plenty of seating. A short wait for a table is common at peak times, and the team seats guests as tables free up and offers a chair while they wait. Big jugs of water sit on each table.

Customer Review Summary

Dosas draw the most praise at this East Ham branch, with reviewers describing a crunchy paper dosa, a masala dosa and an onion Rava dosa, plus sambar and three chutneys (coconut, green chilli and red chilli) that one diner calls the highlight. Close behind are soft, fluffy mini chilli idly, a fresh and flavorful medu vada, biryani and filter coffee with faloodah. A takeaway order of manchurian chilli fry and mushroom sezhwan rice impressed a non-vegetarian family. Several describe a busy, spacious room with polite staff and fairly quick service, and a few say the taste has stayed consistent over years of visits. The complaints are specific. One diner found dal makhani, a paneer gravy and butter naan tiny for the price, and was told that was the standard and to order a dosa instead. Another found the paneer dosa chutney and puri curry poor, with sambar poured over the dosa until it went soggy, and noted others being seated first. One reviewer also raised concern about a man loitering by the entrance. Staff there reportedly threw the naan onto the table.

“We are a non-vegetarian family. We went here for a desert and coffee to try some specialities. However we were so impressed we also ordered some food to go for the evening and were in no way disappointed. First, the service and atmosphere - first rate. We were informed that there would be a 5 minute wait when we arrived, and the staff also offered us a chair in case we needed to sit down whilst we waited. I didn't, but I appreciate the consideration. We ordered two filter coffees and two faloodahs for the kids. Even though we don't normally take sugar with our coffee, it is worth taking it this time, as recommended by the staff. We were not disappointed at all with either thing. As we were waiting, and enjoying our order, we were able to see the variety of food coming out to others. If I said it got me feeling like I wanted to put in an order for food, despite having just eaten elsewhere, I would be understating things. We ended up ordering manchurian chilli fry and mushroom sezhwan rice to take away. I am so glad we did! When we ate them this evening the taste blew me away! As I mentioned at the start, we are not vegetarian, but, if the food was always like this, I could easily eat and not miss meat or fish too much. I can't wait to go back and try a full meal.”

“I have visited this establishment a multitude of times. I must admit, my friend and I went with the intention to visit Chennai dosa but upon realizing it has closed (I think due to questionable hygiene practices), we decided on visiting saravanna and were absolutely thrilled to have done so. I must confirm that the quality of food has been equally good on all visits. A large restaurant bustling with happy customers, with (light) air conditioning & big jugs of pani (water) available on each table. Somewhat fast service (I suppose there are many tables that are being waited on simultaneously) by polite staff. My friend and I ordered 2x paper dosa, one masala dosa and one onion Rava dosa. As well as a portion of mini chilli idly to go. Great flavor and quality, my favorite being the Rava dosa. The paper dosa was super crunchy throughout. The idly super soft and fluffy with a gorgeous mild chilli flavor; it was extra delicious when paired with the chutneys provided. The highlight is always the amazing flavored sambar and 3 flavor chutneys, (coconut, green chilli and red chilli) with my favorite being the coconut one. 12/10, divine!”

“Saravanabhavan in East Ham is a delightful spot for anyone craving authentic South Indian cuisine. From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you feel at home. The staff are courteous, attentive, and always ready to help with recommendations, especially if you’re unsure what to try. The restaurant maintains good hygiene standards, and the seating is comfortable, making it suitable for both quick meals and relaxed dining experiences. The food is undoubtedly the highlight here. Their dosas are crisp, generously sized, and served with a variety of flavorful chutneys and sambar that taste fresh and well-balanced. The biryanis are aromatic and rich, packed with spices that bring out a truly authentic taste. Vegetarian options are plentiful and equally satisfying, which makes it a great choice for a wide range of diners. Portions are generous, and the quality remains consistent even during busy hours. Another great aspect of Saravanabhavan is its value for money. The pricing is reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes, making it a popular choice among locals. Service is generally quick, even when the restaurant is crowded, which is impressive. Overall, Saravanabhavan in East Ham stands out as a reliable and enjoyable dining destination. Whether you’re visiting for a casual meal or introducing friends to South Indian flavors, it’s definitely worth a visit.”

“Saravanaa Bhavan in East Ham is a well known spot for South Indian food and offers a good variety of traditional dishes. The menu includes options like dosas, idlis, vadas, and meals, which makes it a reliable place if you are craving authentic South Indian cuisine. The food tastes decent and is quite consistent, especially if you are familiar with the brand. The place is usually busy, which shows its popularity, but it can also mean a bit of waiting during peak hours. The ambience is simple and functional, focused more on quick dining rather than a relaxed experience. Overall, it’s a dependable option for South Indian food in the area, especially if you are looking for something familiar and vegetarian.”
