Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the mushroom dishes, with the butter garlic mushroom and the mushroom pepper fry both named as highlights. Close behind are the dosa, called very authentic, the spicy fish fry, the marsala cheesy chips and the poddi idli, along with chicken dishes described as delicious and packed with flavor. Reviewers repeatedly praise generous portions, reasonable prices and a huge menu spanning Sri Lankan, Indo-Chinese, Indian and Kerala dishes, and several call the staff kind and welcoming. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the lamb biryani awful, describing chunks of rubbery fat instead of meat and half-cooked rice swimming in oil. Two others mention a wait for their order and some items being unavailable on the day, and one notes the spice level is definitely there. One diner observed that the dumplings were crispy rather than steamed, and that beer and wine are available on request though not on the menu. Another said a staff member took their table through the menu so well.

“We had a fantastic meal at Spicy Dosa in Gants Hill! We tried a couple of their chicken dishes, which were delicious and packed with flavor. The absolute highlight of the night, though, was the butter garlic mushroom—it was amazing! Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for great food in Ilford.”

“Great authentic food, good quiet atmosphere, quick efficient service by kind, warm and welcoming staff. All queries and concerns quickly dealt with, with no issues. Nice cooling environment especially in the heat wave. Insane portion size. Definitely recommend the Marsala cheesy chips and mushroom pepper fry.”

“I was really looking forward to a good meal after a long day at work, but this was a massive letdown. The lamb biryani was awful. Every piece of lamb I got was just a chunk of rubbery fat with zero meat on it. To make matters worse, the rice was half-cooked and swimming in oil. Total waste of money, ruined my hunger, and put me in a terrible mood. Will never use this place again.”
