About Indra’s net cafe

Indra's net cafe is a tucked-away Italian cafe in the City of London near Monument, at 36 St Mary at Hill, with its entrance through the St Mary at Hill courtyard opposite The India restaurant. Lunch is a buffet of homemade Italian food where you choose your own vegetable dishes and sides, and the menu changes every day. Vegetarian, vegan, beef, chicken and fish options sit alongside the vegetables. The kitchen bakes its cakes in house, including a Nutella cake with almonds, and the coffee is wood roasted and served as cappuccino among other drinks. A banana chocolate vegan cake and hot chocolate round out the sweet side of the menu.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the homemade Italian food, served buffet style so diners pick their own vegetable dishes or let the host choose. One describes a vegan tofu and rice salad with sides of roasted potatoes, carrots, parsnip, lentil mash and caponata, and others praise the vegan and fish options. Close behind are the home baked cakes, with a Nutella cake with almonds and a banana chocolate vegan cake named specifically. Coffee earns steady praise too, including a double cappuccino, and one reviewer enjoyed a hot chocolate. Many describe a tucked away, calm and relaxed spot, with a courtyard for sitting outside in summer and cozy indoor tables. The host and staff are called friendly and lovely, and one says the service makes them feel like they are in an Italian home. Two reviewers advise entering via St Mary at Hill, since map directions can mislead. One reviewer's cake arrived with a full self-pour water alongside it.

“This place made my day! Make sure you come via St Mary at Hill, as Google Maps can mislead you. Had an amazing tofu/rice vegan salad as a main, with my 5 sides of roasted potatoes, carrots, parsnip, lentil mash and caponata. Amazing meal for just under £10! To top it all off, I got a gorgeous banana chocolate vegan cake for desert, and the woman serving me was so friendly and informative. Do go and support this amazing little cafe, so nicely tucked away from the city, it really is a beautifully calm place to spend some time and eat real food!”
