About Kybelle Cafe

Kybelle Cafe operates as a vegetarian cafe and deli on Great Eastern St in London, serving breakfast and lunch across a menu of 26 dishes. Alongside standard plates, the kitchen offers a Turkish breakfast built around çılbır poached eggs, giving the menu a point beyond the usual granola and toast lineup. Eggs Benedict and French toast, often finished with a berry sauce, round out the morning options. The entrance is step-free, opening the space to visitors with mobility needs, and outdoor seating extends the room for those who want to eat outside. High chairs are available for families with young children, and dogs are welcome inside. Free Wi-Fi is on offer for anyone settling in with a laptop. The cafe is open daily, and reservations are recommended. Food is also available to take away or have delivered for those eating off site.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast and brunch dominate the feedback at Kybelle Cafe, with the French toast, eggs Benedict, and Turkish breakfast (cilbir eggs) drawing the most repeated praise for being delicious and well cooked, alongside call-outs for the almond croissants, granola with berries and Greek yogurt, and the pastrami wrap. Coffee gets mixed notice, most call it delicious, though one diner found it bitter and overpowering. Staff warmth and a cozy, relaxed atmosphere come up constantly, and one reviewer describes a kitchen mistake resolved with a free pastry. The clearest recurring caveat is value: several reviewers call portions small for the price, pointing to a £13.50 Mother Earth plate as "one slice of sourdough" with a thin topping, and a £13 French toast order described as a single, undersized piece missing a corner, with that same reviewer also objecting to a 12.5% service charge applied before food arrived and calling a chicken wrap bland and inconsistently heated. A couple of others note the sourdough itself could be crisper or easier to cut. Despite the pricing complaints, most describe leaving full and planning to return.

“I tried this place for the first time because of the glowing reviews, but it’s clear they’ve started cutting corners (quite literally, in the case of my French toast). First off: a 12.5% service charge when you’re paying at the counter before you even get your food? That’s not a service charge, that’s a joke. There’s no service to charge for yet. And sure, the food tasted decent enough, but £13 (before service charge) for a single, fist-sized piece of blackened French toast and a side of streaky bacon? A piece so pathetic it was missing a whole corner, conveniently disguised under some berry sauce. I’m appalled. Based on older photos, they used to serve two pieces of French toast for this price. Now it’s one. What an absolute scam. The owner should be ashamed of charging for portions this insulting. I walked in hungry and walked out hungrier. My friend didn’t fare any better, his chicken wrap was bland and warm on the outside but cold in the middle. We will not be back. Save your money.”

“The coffee is 10/10, ordered cortado with oat milk . Pastries were average (tried pistachio croissant and almond pastry). The breakfast menu seemed very nice, tried the burrito and was good but overpriced . Recommended for the coffee”

“Loved the matcha Kybelles Hash, shakshouka . Filling breakfast place. Lovely. Offers on Neo Taste app too.”

“Very lovely place with very delicious food and coffee!! Staff were very kind!”
  • Caroline Da Cunha Lewin
“Extremely overpriced for the portion sizes. The Mother Earth plate was £13.50 and was one slice of sourdough with thin layer of peppers, spinach, some mushrooms and a bit of vegan cheese spread. Tasted fine, quite nice but nothing astounding. Coffee was good, the place is very clean and staff are lovely but won’t be coming back because so expensive considering such small amounts of food.”
