About The Hoop and Grapes
On Aldgate High St in London, The Hoop and Grapes is a traditional pub with historic features inside and live music. A separate restaurant area sits away from the bar, so diners can eat apart from the drinking space. The food follows a classic pub line, with fish and chips and a steak and ale pie among the dishes. At the bar, gin and tonic is one of the gin drinks poured, alongside a happy hour. The pub opens daily.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the draw reviewers raise most, called generous, fresh and tasty, with the steak and ale pie close behind and praised as highly recommended. Fish pie, meat pies, mushroom garlic toast, apple crumble and a creamy dessert also earn mentions. On the drinks side, diners single out cold Guinness, ginger beer and several gin drinks, and one says a bartender nailed a cocktail the pub had never heard of. Staff are described as friendly, welcoming and attentive, with one team finding a seat in a packed room and another offering recommendations. Reviewers call the atmosphere cozy, traditional and local, with historic features visible inside, and one enjoyed the live music. The one recurring trade-off is crowding: the pub gets crazy on weekends and was packed after work, though a few describe being seated or served anyway, even outside the dining area. One reviewer notes the room was quiet until the World Cup matches began, then loud with full sound.

“My fiancé and I were looking for a pub with good food late in the evening after a long travel day. This place exceeded our expectations. The vibe is so fun, the food, drinks, and service were some of the best we’ve had! We got the fish and chips and steak pie, and they were both excellent. Their drinks were also delicious- we tried a few different gin drinks. And our server, Sahitti, was amazing! She was so sweet and attentive— incredible service. So glad we came and highly recommend.”

“This pub near Aldgate is really lovely. We went there on a whim when we got stuck at Fenchurch Street with no trains. The team is great, and the food was delicious! I'd go back (not just when the trains ruin the evening!).”

“We sat in the restaurant area away from the bar. It was quiet until the World Cup matches started. Great atmosphere, full sound for the matches. Food was even better. Fish pie? Gold. Gin and Tonic? Delicious. Strong recommendation. Apple Crumble? Very yes.”

“After 3.5 years, I found myself back in the area and knew I had to return—and I’m glad I did. Once again, the food and service did not disappoint. The staff were attentive and welcoming, and the service was spot on from start to finish. I love the authentic local pub atmosphere, which makes for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. This time I brought my wife along, and she thoroughly enjoyed the generous portion of fish and chips. It’s always nice when a place lives up to your memories, and this one certainly did. Looking forward to my next visit whenever I’m back in the area.”
