About The Pride of Spitalfields

The Pride of Spitalfields is a pub on a cobbled backstreet just off Brick Lane, at 3 Heneage St in London. It is a one-bar traditional pub with a servery, brass rails, wood panelling and a snug, and a piano stands in the main room. Photos hang on the walls, and the worn carpet and net curtains match the traditional setting. Cask ales sit alongside keg and craft beers, and Guinness is on the drinks list. The kitchen works through a menu of 14 dishes, from a Hot Salt Beef Sandwich to Ham Egg & Chips. Screens show live sport, including the World Cup final and Brazil v Japan. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often describe a genuine, old school East End boozer, with worn carpet, net curtains and friendly locals, set apart from the stripped wood bars nearby. The beer draws repeated praise, with cask ales called well kept and keg beer called fresh, and one reviewer names the salt beef sandwich as the usual food choice. Close behind are the staff, described as friendly, welcoming and fast, and a mixed crowd of regulars, after work drinkers and groups. Other details that come up include an old piano, brass rails, historic photos on the walls and a small pavement area out front where people stand with their pints on sunny days. Some mention watching the World Cup and a Brazil against Japan match inside. The main trade-off is the crush. Several describe the pub and the street outside packed after work, and one says it becomes standing room only once busy, advising an early visit. One reviewer notes that staff let them taste the ales while each was described.

“An oasis in the desert. Don't take me wrong, banglatown (as the area is known) is a great place for food (not only indian / bengali), but it's good to have a real English espace. This being said, awesome and helpful staff (I was even allowed to taste the ales as they were described to me). And very nice atmosphere. I watched the Worldcup final and went there the 2 nights before.”

“Small, cosy pub in a top location off Brick Lane with great, fresh keg beer. Welcoming staff and locals. Deservedly one of the highest rated pubs in the UK.”

“A classic under the London pubs I would say. A lot of history you got there. Lots of people standing outside for after work drinks and the goldies inside.”

“A "real" pub that stands out in an area that has way too many, almost identical, soulless made over bars. It's a small gem. Started off basking in the sunshine in the small area out the front and then went inside to watch Brazil V Japan. A pint of Stella is £6. Service is fast and friendly. Good natured crowd. Try it rather than another stripped wood, weird overpriced beer, place. You'll be pleasantly surprised.”

“A proper traditional boozer that I believe is family run, judging by the photos on the walls. Really friendly service and popular with all ages and types. Had a pleasant cask beer and very enjoyable short visit. Recommended.”
