About The Faltering Fullback
The Faltering Fullback is an Irish pub in Finsbury Park, London, at 19 Perth Rd, pairing its Irish setting with a Thai food menu. The kitchen cooks dishes such as pad Thai and green curry, and Guinness and other beers are on tap. Live trad music gives the pub a musical side, which sits alongside the Thai cooking. Inside, the building is large, with a few small rooms dotted around it, and bric-a-brac and vintage posters fill the walls. The pub also shows live Arsenal and other sport, so match days are part of its routine.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the Thai menu, with pad Thai called unreal by one diner, and a platter and green curry described as decent by another who wanted it spicier. A third found the food decent but not spectacular. The beer garden comes close behind, described as winding, atmospheric and one of the better ones around, alongside a big interior set up for watching sport. Beers on tap, including a Guinness selection, get steady praise, and several describe a pre-match crowd of Arsenal fans. One advises arriving an hour early for big games, and another suggests booking or putting a name down for the queue on warmer days. Staff are called friendly and the atmosphere welcoming. The main complaint is that smoking is allowed everywhere, including the packed terrace, and one reviewer says it leaves you smelling like an ashtray on busy days. A few also note higher prices and a wait between courses. One reviewer singles out the live trad music on Sunday.

“The food here surprised me on just how tasty it was. The atmosphere was incredible. While it quickly got packed to the brim, it was so much fun! Highly recommend going here for a fun vibe with friends and a tasty meal!”

“Alongside just being a lovely pub with lots of space, plenty of drink options, and a delicious Thai menu, the staff who work here are incredible. During a very hot bank holiday weekend, my friend and I came in for a drink. Unfortunately, the hot weather got to my friend and caused her to faint in the pub. The staff were so helpful and lovely - giving her plenty of drinks and offering her all and any of the snacks available. They also arranged and paid for a taxi home for us both. I really can't get across well enough how incredible the security and management staff were at handling the situation (I'm so sorry I've forgotten the names of everyone involved as it's been a couple of weeks!). They were extremely kind and helpful, making sure that my friend's safety and comfort were top priority. They waited with us for nearly an hour and regularly checked in. I've never encountered such a caring bunch - their kindness and care throughout the entire situation really turned something that was quite scary into a situation where we felt really well and truly looked after. Not only is this pub a lot of fun and has great offerings, but you will well and truly be looked after! Thank you so much again to everyone who helped. We'll be back soon and we'll make sure we stay upright this time!”

“A nice Irish pub with a lot going for it. The outdoor area is lovely when the sun is out, one of the better beer gardens around. Inside is big and well set up for watching sport. Staff are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it’s conveniently close to the station. Make sure to book or put your name down for the queue, especially on warmer days. Highly recommend”

“This restaurant has a nice balance between casual and slightly upscale, making it suitable for different occasions. I visited in the evening and immediately noticed the warm atmosphere created by the lighting and music. The staff greeted us quickly and guided us through the menu when we had questions. We ordered a few different items to share, and everything came out looking great. Taste-wise, the dishes were consistent and well seasoned without being overwhelming. Service was mostly smooth, although there was a bit of a wait between courses. Still, nothing too frustrating. The dessert we tried was definitely a highlight and worth saving room for. Prices are on the higher side, but not unreasonable for what you get. Overall, a dependable place that delivers a good dining experience without taking unnecessary risks.”

“Such a great, massive terraced space to enjoy a drink on a gorgeous day. Downside is they allow smoking everywhere. For being so spacious, it would be considerate to have a smoking section and non. On busy days, its not even worth going bc you smell like an ashtray after”
