Customer Review Summary
Dog owners walking the canal and towpath are the most repeated thread, with reviewers describing dogs welcomed inside, a bowl of fresh water and a dog sausage for the pet. The tranquil, beautifully located setting comes close behind. On the food side, reviewers name a hand carved ham sandwich on soft, fresh bread, a jacket potato with cheese and beans, a large piece of ginger cake, sausage rolls, and salmon with scrambled eggs, alongside seriously good coffee. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the full English thin, with one egg, a runny white even after asking for it cooked through, and no substitutes for mushrooms or tomatoes. Another got dry tea cakes with little butter, a gruff handover of the menu and sparse outdoor seating without umbrellas. Others mention slow service when one staff member handled orders, cooking, drinks and tables alone, a large wall TV that one diner found intrusive, and no vegan dishes on the menu. Several still describe friendly staff, and one pair planning a takeaway were invited in with their dog.

“This is always a welcome coffee stop. However today I felt so sorry for the overworked only member of the staff who was trying to serve, take orders and payments, clean tables, cook and make drinks all by herself. Surely the management could have helped even if it was just limiting service to drinks and cake only.”

“Very disappointed. Used to be excellent service. Today the tea cakes were dry with very little butter. Not offered any other condiments even when other customers were offered it. The outside seating area had gone down - hardly any chairs, no umbrellas despite the high temperatures. Dirty hanky’s stuffed in the slats of the table. When I asked for a menu I was gruffly handed it. The guy washing up totally ignored me at the counter when I went to order. Yes we know it’s been a hot day but there was no smiles or positive customer service. The ultimate disgrace was seeing Customers vaping inside the shop- disgusting. Sorry but we won’t be coming back.”

“This lovely, quite beautifully located cafe is a pleasure to visit. It offers reasonable range of good, well prepared food, that sensibility priced. Seriously good coffee. Well worth the short drive out from the city. Will be coming back to to enjoy a tasty lunch and telling my friends”

“Fantastic breakfast in a lovely setting. The best salmon and scrambled eggs I have ever had. Pet friendly along with a dog sausage for your fury companion. Highly recommended.”

“Unfortunately not the best full English breakfast, 1 egg 1 Sausage, 2 bacon, mushrooms and Tom's, ½ slice white toast and ½ slice brown toast and you have to pay extra for black pudding (95p) For £9.95 not great Also I'm not a fan of Tom's or mushrooms they didn't do substitutes which is a shame. Also had a runny white even after asking for it to be cooked on both sides. Nice location though just shame about the food. (The one Herby potato in the photo was one my friends that was a £1.95 extra, ouch!)”
