About Vestry Hall Coffee
Vestry Hall Coffee is a coffee shop on Free School Ln in Lincoln, housed in a late Victorian vestry whose original architecture forms the interior. The drinks list covers specialty coffee, fine tea and chocolate. The kitchen adds hot sandwiches, including Sourdough Grilled Cheeses and Italian style Ciabattas. Cakes and traybakes cover the sweet side, and the shop pours handmade, small batch Fizzeh Pop made by Steep Soda. It stands in Lincoln's culture quarter, just down from the Central Library and beside St. Swithin's Green, the former churchyard of St. Swithin's church. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to Vestry Hall above all for the coffee, singling out a flat white with ideal proportions and temperature, spot-on espresso, and chai lattes made with oat milk. Close behind are the sandwiches, sourdough toast, and cakes, including a raspberry almond slice described as not too sweet and pleasantly moist. Several praise the friendly, dry-humoured barista and owner, one who gave a visiting dog a treat and another who offered a first-time visitor directions to the cathedral. Many mention the shady outdoor seating under the trees and the comfortable, cosy interior with good background music. The criticisms are few but specific. One reviewer was refused use of the toilet for a young daughter, told it was for guests only, and left without the marshmallows bought in response. Another, a longtime regular, finds the food selection lacking for morning commuters and was surprised by a bacon ciabatta costing around six pounds, though still calls it a favourite. Reviewers often end on the welcome, with the dog treat and the sightseeing directions recalled most warmly.

“Over the last few months I have been visiting a range of coffee houses in the Lincoln area. I can honestly say that The Vestry comes out on top. My flat white was perfect in every aspect, the proportions of coffee to milk and so forth, ideal. The temperature was spot on. The barista certainly knows what he is doing in terms of technique and skill. Which brings me to my late afternoon raspberry almond slice - not too sweet, pleasantly moist, as it should be. And here we have an independent coffee shop that truly pays attention to ambience. There's nothing tacky or fake here, reflected in the comfortable seating and intimate, cosy table layout. Let's not forget the background music. Where else would I be able to savour my coffee to the strains of Miles Davies, The Beatles and TRex ? The only downside is that this is a late in the day local discovery on my part, as we leave to live in France permanently in a few days time. However, what a pleasant memory of Lincoln's coffee houses to be left with.”

“Can’t comment on the food or the atmosphere as didn’t see or sample Either but the service wasn’t the best…. Young daughter wanted to use the toilet and was met with a resounding no…. And for guests only. So bought marshmallows. (Didn’t bother taking them though) Not a great advert for people visiting the city and can only imagine better cafes in and around Lincoln.”

“We would highly recommend this spot. Andrew is an absolute legend and not only will make you an epic hot drink, but put a smile on your face as he does it. We got chai lattes with oat milk (so it was vegan friendly which is necessary for us) and they were 12/10. Good music, good vibes, and the best customer service ever.”

“A very friendly and dry humoured barista here. He knows his stuff. And the sandwiches look great (didn’t have one). and cakes are delish. Coffees are spot on. There’s a Nice shady space outside under the trees. Recommended.”

Didn't get his name but he was really friendly and helpful. Overall friendly, small comfortable place to get a drink.”
