Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what most reviewers return for, with the roast beef praised as done to perfection and one table getting extra gravy jugs, while the kids' meals also went down well. Close behind is the Grimsby haddock and chips with mushy peas, described as enormous and like seaside fish and chips. Others single out the pie of the day, the schnitzel and a sweet potato dahl that was loaded and full of flavour. Reviewers describe friendly staff, a large selection of real ales, a lovely garden suntrap and a welcome for dogs. The sharpest complaints come from two Christmas day meals, where mains arrived stone cold, turkey came out as beef, a vegetarian dish arrived with meat, and the room was overcrowded with drinkers while the manager offered no apology. One of those diners waited a long stretch for two courses and found one potato burnt solid. A Sunday diner also found the beef hard to chew and the stuffing rock hard. Even in those reviews, the waitress and bar staff were called lovely and friendly.

“We visited whilst staying in the area, it was very busy at the front, but the restaurant was nice and quiet. We ordered pie of the day and schnitzel, they were both very tasty and nicely presented. The service was ok considering how busy they were. The girls serving were very friendly and professional. We would definitely go there again, if we are in the area, it had a nice feel about it. There is also a beer garden, but we didn't use it.”

“5 people for Christmas day dinner. Tucked away in a room with four tables all reserved. Two tables having food served. The other two tables were taken over by people drinking and others crowding in so that it was impossible to move or hear each other speak as very loud men were crowded in standing over the tables where people were earing and having to shout to hear each other. One lady went home as too crowded and couldn't eat due to atmosphere and felt unwell. Food was OK ish. Starter was OK. The mains which were supposed to be Turkey came as beef. The vegetarian option came with MEAT! Three of the mains were stone cold. The vegetarian option was warm, the other was boxed to take home. The people on the opposite table were served wrongly and couldn't be corrected. It was actually awful although the beef looked nice but was not eaten as don't like beef. The deserts were not good. Had much nicer from Iceland. Extremely disappointing for a Christmas meal actually on Christmas day especially as we only went out as I was unable to cook. The waitress was lovely. I would give her 5 stars. The manager was attrocias. Not even an apology for meat being served to a vegetarian. Was rude and obnoxious. Only cared about cramming in as many drinkers as possible although tables reserved. What a joke. People were waiting for the next sitting. One table but taken up by drinkers so table not set. People eating also drink so they should also been given consideration especially as paying out over £300 for food. Manager would not accept responsibility for any of it although pointed out quietly to the waitress. I would never return.”
