Quick info
About The Juggs
The Juggs is a pub on The St in Lewes, set in a beamed cottage from the 1400s with a wood burner inside. The garden has flowers and a gazebo that gives shade, so the grounds work in sun as well as dry weather. The kitchen pairs British food with ales, and the Sunday roast comes as a mixed meat roast, lamb or a veggie roast, each with a large Yorkshire pudding. Curries also feature on the menu, including a beetroot pakora curry and a tarka dhal curry. The pub takes walk-ins without a booking. A function room is available for groups and has hosted a Sunday lunch party of 22.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most praise at The Juggs, with one reviewer calling the lamb that fell apart on the fork the best roast in years, and another singling out a Yorkshire pudding half the size of the plate on the vegetarian roast. Close behind are the chips, which reviewers call extremely good, and the ham, egg and chips, which one diner declared the best he had ever had. Others mention a wavy beef burger, a duck bun starter, a chocolate brownie, and beetroot pakora and tarka dhal curries. The garden and shaded outdoor seating come up repeatedly, alongside a woodburner smell and a country pub feel inside. Several describe friendly, attentive staff and a manager who made them feel like regulars. The caveat is a single negative review: one diner found the scampi cold in the middle and bland, with hard peas on a small plate, and reports a stomachache afterward. Praise for the coffee and the refreshed toilets closes out the happier accounts.

“I have visited here twice over the past few months and I am happy to share it was consistently a really good experience both times. Food is good quality and not excessively priced for the quality. There is a good range of options. Staff are prompt and friendly. Lots of seating inside and out with parking. Nice 'country pub' atmposhere inside. Excellent coffee; so many pubs are let down by a bad coffee at the end of a meal! I think we have been served by the owner/operator both times who chatted with us and were very welcoming; it's good that they are playing an active part in service. I think they have only operated the pub from this year and it's a definite improvement on previous visits I have made here in the past. I will definitely keep returning.”

“Been here many times on and off over the years. Visited today with my husband for lunch and had the most wonderful experience from walking in to leaving. We sat outside under the gazebo. It was a hot day and it was cool and shady just what we needed! The food was delicious. The side salad was so nicely done, very colourful with a lovely vinaigrette dressing lightly drizzled over. Salads can be really hit and miss at times but this one was 10/10 Husband had Ham egg and chips and declared it the best he’s ever had ( wish I’d taken pictures) The chips are to die for! Lastly the service…. Spot on, lovely friendly team, very attentive and all in 30 degree heat 🥵 Oh and not forgetting the toilets! They’ve been done up since my last visit and looked lovely. Very clean and fresh.”

“Very disappointed after hearing great reviews About this place! My scampi was cold in the middle and very bland, the chips were nothing special and the peas were hard! They charged me £19 for a very small plate of food., After looking further into the company I realised that they had only achieved a 3 hygiene rating so I’m not surprised my food wasn’t cooked to the correct temperature, they need to pull their socks up and get their act together! I will not be returning and I had a stomachache after eating there. Such a shame as it’s a very pretty setting.”

“Sunday lunch with 22 friends. We had a great time in the function room there which accommodated us all. The service was excellent and the food from a varied menu was really nice. Eva really stood out as being attentive and caring of our needs and Tom was also star when we met him at the bar to pay. We will definitely go back. Beautiful garden and flowers made the pub very appealing. well done The Juggs!”

“I visited the Juggs on the weekend and sat outside in the pub garden. It was such a nice atmosphere and the food was amazing, I had the wavy beef burger which was 10/10 and the chips were also extremely good. I will definitely be revisiting ! It’s so nice to have somewhere local which has genuinely great food and a nice vibe about it.”
