About John Harvey Tavern
John Harvey Tavern is a pub on Bear Yard in Lewes, run as the Tap Room of Harvey's Brewery and set opposite the brewery. Harvey's real ales are served straight from casks behind the bar, and flights of Harvey's beers are also on offer. The building is an old pub with low exposed beams, two rooms downstairs and two upstairs. It sits on a side street in the pedestrian area of Lewes, near the river. The Sunday roast comes as minted lamb, roast beef or roast pork, served with Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. The pub is open daily and hosts a live music night.

Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast draws the most praise, with diners singling out minted lamb with plenty of veg, excellent roast pork, good roast beef, and meat and veg cooked to perfection. Close behind is the beer. Reviewers note this is the Harvey's brewery tap room, with real ales poured straight from the casks behind the bar and flights on offer. Several describe friendly staff, a great pub atmosphere, and tables outside by the river, with people spilling into the lane on fine evenings. One reviewer calls it a real old English pub, and mentions low beams, tiny toilets, steep stairs and uneven floors, none of which they say matter. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who describes very slow service, with two staff covering the whole building, a long gap before the food arrived, a burger that underwhelmed, and an over-salted, only just warm chili. Others describe food and service as consistently good, including a lively music night. One couple held their wedding reception in the upstairs function room, where guests loved the three course meal.

“More or less opposite of Harvey's brewery, but a bit tucked away in a side street. Offers flights of Harvey's beers. Classic pub, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Can't comment on the food, because I only was there for drinks. Everything I saw leaving the kitchen looked appealing and well made.”

“This is Harveys tap room , right across from the brewery., Good to see beers served straight from the casks behind the bar. Very friendly staff . Beautiful pub. Didn't eat but the menu looked good. A trip to Lewes isn't complete without visiting The John Harvey Tavern .”

“One of the best pubs in town. It’s the tap room for the Harvey’s brewery so great selection of Harvey’s beers on offer. Great pub atmosphere inside and tables outside, plus, it’s right by the river and so you can sit on the riverside and enjoy a drink or two when the weather is right. It’s a great location and very friendly. The staff are friendly, excellent, attentive and professional. It’s a must if you come to Lewes. Enjoy.”
