Quick info
About Sonrisa Comida Argentina
Sonrisa Comida Argentina is an Argentinian restaurant on St Martins in Leicester, with a menu built around steak. Sirloin and porterhouse lead the mains, and a sharing platter gives the table another way to order. Most of the meat is halal, which matters for diners who need that. The menu splits into tapas-style small dishes and a limited selection of large plates, so a starter like the cod ceviche can sit alongside a steak. Vegetarian options are on the menu as well. A bar area carries a wide selection of wines to go with the food. The restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is the main draw, with the sirloin called excellent, several steaks described as well seasoned and full of flavour, and a porterhouse, suggested when the chateaubriand was unavailable, called one of the best one diner has had recently. Close behind are the sides: potato fry, truffle chips and tenderstem broccoli, with one table ordering a second plate of potatoes. Others single out the cod ceviche, sticky toffee pudding and beef rigatoni. Complaints sit mostly away from the grill. One reviewer found the octopus tasteless and rubbery, another called the lamb portion measly and the sea bass a bit cold, and one says a steak ordered medium-rare came out more rare. A few wanted larger portions. Service is called attentive and friendly, and one diner describes a server bringing wines out to taste when the table could not decide.

“Me and my friends went to Son Risa on a Wednesday night, not really anticipating much but we were pleasantly surprised by the end of our night. Despite it being 10pm on a weekday, the place still had a great ambience, with it not being too busy or too quiet. The food was quick to come out and and tasted as good as it looked. We opted for multiple starters/sides as recommended by the menu/our server Belle, and that was enough for our group. All in all, such a lovely restaurant. Thank you especially to Belle and Yasir for serving us, and providing such a great dining experience :)”

“Lovely Argentine tucked away in Leicester city centre 🥩✨ Starters Cod ceviche (the standout) — after trying it a few times, I’m convinced the sauce is green apple, garlic & chilli. The cod was so soft, I honestly would’ve eaten more 🍋 Decent calamari & bruschetta, nothing to write home about Mains Sharing platter. Fair warning though — ask for medium-rare, it comes out more rare than medium 😅 Truffle chips were yum. Chimichurri & peppercorn sauces were kind of mid, but honestly? The steak’s seasoned enough that you don’t need them. Dessert Brown muscovado sugar sticky toffee pudding — not pictured because we devoured it. Actually one of the nicest sweet treats I’ve ever had 🥲 Verdict: Great for a celebration. Pricey with no student discount, but the quality shows. Highly recommend it.”

“Me and my family went for Sunday lunch. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. We couldn’t decide on our wine and he brought some out for us to try. A little gesture that meant a lot. We wanted to have the chateaubriand. There were apologies about availability and the porterhouse was suggested. It did not disappoint. One of the best steaks i’ve had in recent memory. I could go on, but just know that I think this is the best restaurant in Leicester. Excellent work all round.”

“Had a great time here - drinks, food, and dessert were all wonderful. There were also a ton of substantial vegetarian options. The atmosphere is really nice - pretty and elegant, without being stuffy. Our server, Ivan, was fantastic. He was attentive and friendly. He also helped my friends surprise me with a birthday celebration and patiently took photos of our group.”

“The food was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and cooked perfectly. The sausage dish was especially memorable — juicy, smoky, and paired so well with the fresh salad and rich tomato dressing. Every bite felt authentic and comforting.”
