Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the pancakes and the portion sizes, with several calling the servings enormous and one admitting that even the pancakes and tater tots defeated them. French toast with strawberries, bananas and maple syrup is described as divine, and smashed avocado and eggs on sourdough, a cheese and onion pancake and the coffee also draw praise. Diners mention plenty of vegetarian options and an aesthetic interior, and several call the staff kind, friendly and quick. The pancakes are also where complaints concentrate. One reviewer found the yoghurt pancakes dense, dry and bread-like and could not finish half, and another says they can become a bit dry. The same reviewer called an iced matcha diluted and was charged for a double pump of syrup without confirmation. Another waited about 20 minutes after being seated until reminding the counter, then a further wait for food, and noted only two servers on a busy shop floor. One diner who could not finish the French toast was given a take-away box.

“Absolutely enormous portions! I’m never one to leave food but even I was defeated by the pancakes and tater tots. Great variety of all day breakfasts to choose from and prices are quite reasonable. Service was quick and friendly.”

“Came here early on a Friday morning with a friend. We were greeted with a smile and quickly seated. The place is beautifully presented, clean and welcoming. There’s a good selection on the menu, including alcoholic drinks, hot and cold drinks, and a reasonable choice of food without being overwhelming. We both had smashed avocado and eggs, with slightly different variations, and they were delicious. The only thing I’d say is that sourdough can always be a little tricky to eat — but it’s good for you, right? The lady who served us was lovely and really added to the experience. It was also interesting to see such a mix of people enjoying the café — families, couples and people dining on their own. I would happily return. It actually reminded me of a lovely café I’ve visited in Norwich.”

“Came to Kai for breakfast, daughter raves about it. This could so easily have been 5*. We waited 20 mins after being seated, till I had to go to the counter to remind them we were here. Food took a further 30 mins to arrive (this I didn’t mind at all). Food was delicious, and very filling and you could taste the care in the preparation. I had the Cheese and Onion Pancake without the Bacon. Staff were lovely, but I observed only 2 servers, when shop was so busy. For the turnover, maybe get more staff?”

“Good food, varied choices for different tastes. Pancakes can become a bit dry and service not too attentive. Otherwise good.”

“This is definitely an Internet celebrity shop. At first glance, it looks like a dessert shop, but in fact it is a new-style restaurant that mainly offers pancakes, French toast and sourdough bread. In addition to numerous dessert options, you can also find some salty and sweet delicacies. I think the portion is quite sufficient and the price is not too expensive. It’s a great place to relax with friends during vacation”
