About Liquid Jade
Liquid Jade is an independent tea house and cafe in Hull, found down a passage beside The Works off Whitefriargate. More than 40 varieties of loose leaf tea fill the drinks list, covering black, green and white teas, with Yunnan Black Tea among them. The teas are also sold to take home and by mail order, so a favourite can follow you out the door. Freshly brewed coffee runs alongside the tea. In the kitchen, salads, paninis and wraps are cooked to order, and a falafel wrap sits on the menu next to a warm falafel salad with pitta bread. Vegan dishes are available too. Cakes include a lemon tart, and gluten-free cake options are offered for anyone avoiding gluten.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the wide range of loose teas, with a pot of Yunnan Black Tea and Rose Tea praised alongside food, and matcha and a blue latte with spirulina also named. Close behind are the falafel salad and wrap, halloumi salads and a beef panini, plus gluten-free cake and a lemon tart. Several describe it as tucked away down a side passage with a courtyard seating area, and staff are repeatedly called friendly. The caveat sits with the hot food. Two reviewers found the beef in a roast beef toasted sandwich chewy and hard to bite through, and both disliked a strong balsamic drizzle on jacket potatoes that the menu did not mention, with one also finding the filling sparse. One felt awkward after repeated questions about leftover food, and another called a takeaway oat milk coffee awful. One grandparent said staff checked whether balsamic was wanted on a jacket potato and offered to cut the crusts off a child's sandwich.

“Never again. £3.90 for a sub standard takeaway coffee with a splash of oat milk! It was awful. I gave 2 stars purely because the staff members were very friendly. I was too far away to go back and complain but I didn’t finish it.”

“Went today September 2026, with my 4 yr old granddaughter. There were no tables available inside, but offered table outside and would let us know when table inside was available. By the time they had taken our order, there was a table available. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. They even came out to see whether we wanted the crusts cut off the sandwich for my granddaughter, and checked to see whether I wanted balsamic vinegar on my jacket potato. Everything was really well presented and delicious. I took some cake away to eat later and that was fabulous too. Would definitely recommend this lovely little gem!! 👌”

“Tucked away a bit, which adds to its hidden-gem feel, Liquid Jade is a really nice spot inside. The staff were fantastic, so welcoming and friendly from the moment we arrived. The whole team deserves credit for the great atmosphere and service. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite match the quality of the welcome. We ordered a mix of jacket potatoes and a roast beef toasted sandwich. The sandwich was tough to eat because the beef seemed like standard deli slices which were hard to bite through and tended to pull out in one go. It also had raw onions and plenty of cheese, making for a combination that wasn't very pleasant, and I ended up leaving most of it. The jacket potatoes also had a generous drizzle of balsamic vinegar on top, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. It is a very strong flavor that clashed quite a bit with the classic fillings like cheese and tuna mayo, making it hard to enjoy. It was an unexpected addition that didn't work for us. The team was kind enough to ask how things were, and while we gave a brief answer, based on this experience it is unlikely we will be back. A lovely environment and great service, but the food itself needs some rethinking.”
