Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips lead the praise, one diner calling them the best in years, while a steak is described as the best ever and a Sunday roast and dessert also go down well. Guests staying with dogs mention comfortable rooms, a good shower and bed, local ales and a continental breakfast. Reviewers also like the setting, the garden and the play park. Service divides opinion. Several find the staff warm and friendly, yet one visitor found the bar staff dismissive and another found older staff unwelcoming. Food complaints are more specific. One regular's latest visit brought overcooked chips and a pork chop with an odd flavour, the meal was sent back, and a feedback email went unanswered. Others call the menu limited, with vegetables and side salad extra and a burger served plain. One would have liked the roast warmer with more veg, and another noted the kids' menu desserts were all ice cream. One party without a booking was still seated quickly for Sunday roast.

“A really gorgeous pub in a gorgeous setting! We didn’t eat, but the menu looked great, was a lovely spot to have a drink outside however the only con would be that the welcome from the bar staff wasn’t very friendly! Quite dismissive, felt like we were being a bit of an inconvenience getting a drink! But they may have been having a bad day, I would still recommend! :)”

“Good Sunday lunch and dessert, lovely setting and great play park in the beer garden. All kids menu desserts were ice cream, could have had fruit as option. Older staff felt not very welcoming unfortunately which did impact the warmth of the meal.”

“My parents and I (and my little dog) ate here twice whilst visiting Norfolk, the first time was just by chance that we found the place driving past, we had the steak which was the best ever!! And a very warm friendly welcome. We then back in the sunday for a roast didn't book but they got us in within 10 mins. The food was amazing the only thing I would say is the roast could have been a little warmer and a bit more veg, apart form that it was lovely and would return and recommend if in the area.”

“We've always enjoyed eating here and absolutely love the building and atmosphere, which makes this review disappointing to write. Unfortunately, our last two visits have fallen well below the standard we've come to expect. On our most recent visit, the chips were overcooked, the pork chop had an odd flavour and the presentation was poor. We politely asked for the meal to be removed and didn't make a fuss. After our visit, I received a feedback email which I completed, but never heard anything further. A real shame, as we've always rated this pub highly among friends, and hope it can return to its former standards given its local to us.”

“Another great stay post 125 mile charity bike ride from Leicestershire to Sheringham. Stayed last year and were so impressed came back without hesitation. Rooms are great especially the shower and bed. Good selection of drinks and local ales and beers. Staff really friendly and attentive Continental breakfast hit the spot. Definitely recommend this hotel”
