About Beer Shed

Beer Shed is a micropub in High Peak, on Market St, set out as a narrow bar on two levels with a basement room below. Up to four real ales are served on hand pump, alongside regional craft beers from local micro-breweries. Continental beers are also stocked, including Rothaus Märzen, and wine is on the list too. The downstairs room leads out to a small "secret" beer garden at the back, so the drinking space extends beyond the bar itself. The pub is open daily and holds a monthly pub quiz. The only toilet is in the basement.

“We always pop in here for a couple whilst waiting for the chippy across the road The blokes like the choice of beer and it's always a good atmosphere I'm driving and they don't have lime juice for a lime and soda, obvs not a big deal, last time I ended up with a Hopwater which I thought was foul, even the smell So would def recommend the bar but not the Hopwater😂”

“I do come in here often but on this occasion, i dropped in on my own. Which is a first for me because I'm quite shy. Ended up chatting to a lovely couple for an hour. The place is nice and intimate and definitely a place where you can go in alone and meet new friends. Each time i have been in, everyone is inclusive and friendly. Still my favourite beer stop in New Mills. Update, Jan 2026. The Beer Shed has exchanged ownership. I came in about seven and it was nicely busy. I managed to get a seat downstairs, and then came back upstairs, after it had got quite. I like this place in New Mills, as i find it is quite diverse, and probably one of the most safest places i feel to drink in, in the town.”

“This is a gem of a bar, with well-kept real ales and several regional craft beers from regional micro-breweries. Slim as buildings go but on two levels and with outdoor seating downstairs, the Beer Shed has a real character and usually generates good conversation between its customers.”

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return mainly for the beer range, with up to four real ales on hand pump alongside local and regional craft beers and some continental options. One reviewer calls the Rothaus Märzen highly recommended, and the wines also get a mention. Close behind are the friendly landlord and staff and the narrow, intimate room, where several describe easy conversation with other customers, including a solo visitor who ended up chatting with a couple for an hour. One reviewer recommends the monthly pub quiz. The complaints are specific. A driver found no lime juice for a lime and soda and ended up with a Hopwater she thought foul, even by smell. Another reviewer could not finish a Rauchbier, likening the smoked beer to a pint of bitter with dog ends soaking in it. The stairs to the basement are described as very steep and narrow, and the only toilet is down there. One account has a local running club arriving for a beer after a long hike run.
