Quick info
About The Hanging Gate
The Hanging Gate is a 19th-century country pub on Manchester Rd in High Peak, with a kids' play area for younger visitors. Real ales sit alongside a varied food menu, and a three course set menu is also on offer. Portions are large. Slushie cocktails add a drink to the bar alongside the ales. Several rooms inside give parties space to sit apart from other tables. The pub also decorates for the calendar, with a Christmas grotto setup and Halloween and Easter decorations.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the food and its generous portions. They name a burger, a huge salad platter of cheese wedges, thick sliced meat, prawns and smoked salmon, and a mixed grill described as a feast. A ham, cheese and pickle baguette with fries and salad and a three course set menu also draw praise, and one party says its gluten free eater was well catered for. Close behind is the staff, described repeatedly as friendly, welcoming and helpful, with one reviewer calling the young team professional and polite. The slushie cocktails get a mention, and the kids menu is called a good choice. Several note a dog seating area inside, and seasonal decorations come up in several reviews, from a Christmas grotto to Halloween and Easter displays. The one quibble is size: a camper stopover guest found the portions enormous and didn't need all three courses, though they felt very welcome and would return.

“What a fabulous little pub we came here to see the christmas setup and it is fantastic, Its like a magical grotto. Great for the kids and those of us who are big kids at heart. Food was also very good and the kids menu has a good choice on it. We might have to make this a little tradition to come here every year now. Its is also dog friendly in some areas of the pub. 🐶”

“The Hanging Gate is place where they get it right every time. Food is amazing with loads of choices for meals and the quality the chef puts into food is fantastic, basically the food is awesome, great price, great portion sizes and arrives quickly. Staff are very welcoming and work very hard to ensure you are getting a good service. They will always speak in a kind manor and make sure you food and drinks are ok. The building is so simple to park in as there's plenty of car spaces and inside has many, well designed and spacious rooms so if you want to sit away from people for a quite meal you can. The Hanging Gate is a pride of Chapel-En-Le-Frith and hope it does well for many years to come. If you drive by, give this pub a go, its fantastic! To the staff, keep up the hard work guys and thank you for the good times!”
