About The Monk's Kitchen Cafe @ Gloucester Cathedral
Set inside Gloucester Cathedral, The Monk's Kitchen Cafe is a coffee shop serving breakfast, brunch and lunch to cathedral visitors and anyone passing a couple of minutes from the high street. Coffee, cake and pastries run through the day, alongside a menu of around 19 items that takes in sandwiches and a cream tea. Afternoon tea is the fuller option, booked by phone in advance so you can request the sandwich and scone fillings you want, and it arrives with scones and cream and jam, home-baked cakes, quiche and a pot of tea each. The cafe opens Monday to Saturday during the daytime and closes on Sundays. Food can take a while when the cathedral is busy, while weekday afternoons run quieter. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
The afternoon tea draws the most attention, with reviewers detailing big sandwiches in fillings like Stilton, walnut and cranberry or chicken and bacon, home baked scones with cream and jam, mocha loaf, lime courgette cake, quiche and a generous pot of tea each. Close behind is the simpler coffee and cake stop, with several praising delicious cakes, nice coffee and pastries taken before or after a wander round the cathedral. Also mentioned are fresh, well sized lunches and lovely bread. Staff come up repeatedly as welcoming, friendly and chatty, with phone booking advice on sandwich and scone choices described as helpful when ordering for children, and one group's slight hiccup resolved without denting the afternoon. Complaints are mild and few: one party waited quite a while at a busy lunch, though they were not in a rush, one felt the silence at a quiet weekday sitting would have benefited from music, and a large group noticed other patrons unimpressed by their noise. One reviewer points out a hidden outside seating spot.

“Real nice place to go for a coffee and cake. Only a couple of mins of the high street but was not too busy. Staff were nice and the cakes were delicious.”

“Afternoon tea was amazing. Great choice of fillings for big, tasty sandwiches ( Stilton, walnut and cranberry, and chicken and bacon), home baked sweet treats ( scones, cream and jams, mocha loaf, and lime courgette cake), quiche and a big pot of tea, each. The service was phenomenal. So friendly and chatty, I wanted them to pull a chair to join us haha. Tuesday pm was quiet and maybe some church or classical music would have boosted the atmosphere to a five, rather than silence when we were eating. Cleanliness was spot on too. Looking forward to going back. Diolch!”

- Jane Heryet
“Visited with a friend for brunch. Good choice of food and drinks. It wasn't too busy and we could sit and chat. We like it here and usually combine our visit with a stroll around the cathedral.”
