The Old Elm Inn is a gastropub with rooms in Gloucester, and overnight stays come with a complimentary breakfast. The menu includes ham, egg and chips, with the ham served off the bone, alongside a pork belly dish. Sunday roast offers a choice of meats with plenty of gravy, and small plate portions are available for smaller appetites. A separate dining area is used for large group bookings. Customer Review Summary
The complaints are specific. One diner expected cooked gammon but got cold ham, with an undercooked egg, a burnt egg and a small portion of overcooked chips. Another found the fish and skin on fries oily and a reheated pizza stale. A guest staying in the rooms found restaurant table service neglected compared with fast bar service, and one thought the pudding tasted shop bought.

“Recently came here for a wine pairing evening. 10/10. Food was delicious and the wines matched very well. A fun evening was had whilst trying foods i may not of ever tried before. Top marks to Dan, the Chef and all the team members.”

“Menu says 'Gammon Ham' so that I expected a cooked piece of gammon. Instead they gave me cold ham! I have asked a lot of friends and researched 'Gammon Ham' on Google and other sources and without exception they said that would be a cooked piece of gammon with egg and chips. Otherwise it would have said simply "Ham, Egg and Chips". On top of that one of the eggs was undercooked and the other was cremated plus they gave me the measliest portion of small overcooked unappetising looking chips imaginable - my grandson's child menu fish fingers had twice as many chips and they weren't overcooked and of a decent size the same with my daughter's chips. I was looking for a good pub to be my 'go to' for a pub lunch with my family as I will be in Gloucester a lot in the coming year but this won't be it!”

“Enjoyed a fantastic Sunday roast with family on 9th August. The food was exceptional, excellent quality as well as big portions, covered with masses of rich thick gravy. At £17.50 for the 4 meats, it is also exceptional value. One of us had a ‘small plate’ for just £10 and even that was plenty. Also had a lovely selection of desserts, which we forced down us, despite feeling full. The young staff waiting our table were excellent, just the right level of attention, we didn’t feel rushed but they were on hand when we needed more drinks, always smiling always helpful. Up there with the best Sunday roast we’ve had this year, but by far the cheapest. All came to about £30 pp including drinks.”

“Very nice place! The kids’ area was very well kept, and the food was amazing and fresh. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming, and the bathrooms were super clean. We just stopped for a quick lunch as it was on our way, and we were very pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend — 10/10!”

“Stopped of on the way north from Devon. The staff were great and the dog friendly nature and relaxed atmosphere all good stuff. Although my wife had a great burger the fish and skin on fries were very oily for my taste. My boy who normally loves pizza didn't enjoy his slightly stale reheated pizza either unfortunately. Not to say other choices couldn't have been great but not the best dining experience this time for us.”
