Customer Review Summary
Diners most often come for the all-vegan food, with burgers and pizzas singled out, including a pizza called the Pizza Crunch, which one reviewer found delicious. A family of non-vegans also called the burgers and pizzas delicious and praised the chips. The tofu-based fish and chips is described as a portion too large for one and a little greasy, and one visitor tried haggis with neeps and tatties for the first time. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and the atmosphere relaxed, with artwork on display and a section for browsing music records. The main criticism targets the kitchen. One longtime regular found the burger basic, the chips burnt, the mushroom dish caked in salt, and a garlic mayo substitute slimy, and still had to pay for it. Another reviewer felt service dragged when ordering dessert, getting the bill and paying. One visit also met a pizza oven that wasn't working and no ice cream left, yet that diner still called it a lovely meal.

“Update: We came one more time for Lunch and everything was really good. Service was perfect (as was the food). We had a really good time at this place and the food was really good, as were the draught beers. The only reason why we were a little bit unhappy was the time the service needed to recognise us. Drinks and food came in a nicely timed manner. But ordering dessert, getting the bill and then paying (after waiting again) was actually a bit annoying (it actually wasn't just us, they let people wait quite some time before seated, ordering more drinks was also an issue for our neighbours). I wanted to tip quite a bit, after that experience I just rounded up a bit.”

“Yet another terrific visit with our two Vegan Grandsons (9 and 5). Wonderful food (best chips in the world). Even as non-vegans (Gran and Grandpa) their burgers and pizzas are delicious. Marvellous, helpful and cheerful Staff and a very relaxed atmosphere. Every visit with Grandsons is a joy.❤️”

“All vegan place. Pleasant table service. I tried the tofu-based fish & chips. Serving is too large for 1 person - I believe this is meant to be shared. I don't eat actual fish, so will assume that it tasted like original. It felt too greasy to me, which I guess is how it is originally supposed to be with chippy shops.”

“Mono really needs to reconsider its kitchen team because this place has gone seriously downhill. I used to absolutely love coming here and would bring friends from different countries to eat here, but sadly the quality just isn’t what it used to be. (In the picture is the vegan mayo, not garlic.. so they already had the mayo, why not add garlic and some herbs.. instead of some slimy garlic paste) They’ve taken so many of the things that made the menu great off, and what’s left feels very average. The only thing that still saves the place is the front-of-house staff — they’re friendly, attentive and welcoming. The food on my latest visit was genuinely disappointing. I was given a garlic mayo substitute that was slimy and horrible - and honestly, all that was needed was garlic mixed into vegan mayo!? How difficult is that? I still had to pay for it, too. The mushroom dish was absolutely caked in salt, the burger was incredibly basic, and the chips were burnt. None of it felt remotely up to the standard I remember. I worked in hospitality for seven years, including two years as a chef/sous chef, and I honestly struggle to understand how food this basic is being sent out. What’s being served is hardly gourmet, yet somehow the kitchen still can’t seem to get the basics right. At this point, I genuinely think the head chef needs to go back to cooking school. It’s such a shame because Mono used to be somewhere I’d happily recommend and bring people from abroad to experience. The staff are still fantastic, but the kitchen is letting the whole place down. I won’t be back until the quality improves.”

“We enjoyed the food at Mono. So good to know everything is vegan. Service was great. Very relaxing and value for money. Only down side was their pizza oven wasn't working and they had run out of ice cream but we still had a lovely meal.”
