Quick info
About Guido's Coronation Restaurant
Guido's Coronation Restaurant is a fish and chips restaurant on Gallowgate in Glasgow, serving through counter service with no reservations taken. The menu runs to 52 dishes, built around a fish supper, with hand cut chips alongside. Beyond the standard fry-up, the counter also batters Irn Bru, a Mars Bar, a Tunnock's Tea Cake, and a Tunnock's Caramel Wafer for those wanting something past the usual fish and chips. The room keeps an old style cafe layout, and the entrance is step-free for wheelchair users. High chairs are set out for families with young children. Orders can be taken away or delivered for those eating off site. It opens daily, with no booking system, so customers order and pay at the counter. Portions run large, and staff will provide a box for whatever is left over.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come back to the fish and chips, praising light, tasty fish in crispy batter, hand cut chips, and big portions, with one visitor taking leftovers home in boxes. Close behind is the family run feel: several describe friendly ladies at the counter, an owner who shares stories about his Italian family, and an old style cafe interior that reviewers call homey and clean. Others mention a fish tea, haggis, soup, an egg roll, and a food tour sampling of battered Mars Bar and pizza crunch. Value comes up repeatedly as affordable. The main caveat is texture, as two reviewers felt the batter and chips could have been crispier, and one thought the food tasted fried in beef tallow, though unsure. Staff are described as patient with a friend who struggled with English, and one reviewer enjoyed hearing a staff member sing. One cheerful warning concerns curry sauce, which doesn't come off a white shirt easily.

“Very lovely place. Friendly staff, good food and affordable prices. They were very patient with my friend who had difficulties speaking English too. Extremely positive vibe overall. We also got to enjoy the singing of one of the people working there. The chips could've been a bit better.”

“Visited Glasgow and our Glasgow based buddy recommended this restaurant. Spotless. Staff excellent. Food really good. All freshly cooked. Prices very reasonable. Plenty happy/satisfied customers within. Peter's patter was priceless. Had us in stitches before the meal. Good portions. Friendly staff and customers. Will go back.”

“This place feels very homey, fish & chips are phenomenal. The portions are BIG. We ordered large and were actually surprised it was truly large!! They were nice and gave us boxes to go. This is truly a family run restaurant. I read the story on the menu and the gentleman who served us the food was very nice and told us stories about his family! Truly beautiful place”
