About Crabshakk Botanics
Crabshakk Botanics is a fish restaurant on Vinicombe St in Glasgow's West End, and a sister restaurant to the Wee Shakk. The kitchen builds its menu around Scottish seafood and local suppliers. Oysters are served natural, and a fruits de mer option sits on the menu for sharing. Among the cooked dishes, the grilled octopus comes with chorizo and pepper cassoulet, and the whole John Dory arrives in a butter sauce with mushrooms. Cocktails and champagne are poured alongside the seafood, so the bar suits a drink and a few oysters as well as a full meal. The dining room runs on table service and includes high tables.

“What more could you ask for than half-price oysters and £8.50 Bloody Marys? We walked in and were seated promptly by Tom, who looked after us throughout the entire meal. The service was fantastic, he was such a lovely chap, attentive without being overbearing and genuinely made the meal that little bit more special. We ordered four natural oysters, a large serving of scallops (five scallops), and a large serving of langoustines (seven langoustines). The oysters were wonderfully fresh and creamy, exactly how we like them. The scallops were cooked perfectly in a sage and anchovy butter and were absolutely delicious. Tom suggested ordering some bread or fries to mop up all that lovely sauce, and we happily took his advice, no regrets whatsoever! The langoustines were grilled in garlic butter and were equally scrumptious, served with a small side salad that complemented them nicely. We sat at one of the high tables on the left as you enter the restaurant, which had a lovely view and plenty of natural light. Add in the Bloody Marys, fresh seafood and brilliant service, such a lovely way to end the day. We’ll definitely be back! 🥰”

“Seafood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of character. The modern interior and welcoming setting make it an enjoyable place to dine, while the focus on fresh seafood adds to its appeal. A great choice if you're exploring Glasgow’s West End”

“Great place as always except for my espresso! The food at the crab shack is always great and it has been since it first opened with the original restaurant in Finnieston. Love the crab cakes and the scallops. I was there last night for my birthday dinner with the family (5 of us). The octopus and the John Dory were exceptional. The whole John Dory was cooked to perfection which in French is described as “rosé à l’os” (translucent flesh and just pink where the main bone is inside the fish. The rice pudding however was not great and the white chocolate casing was far too thick and virtually impossible to break. Had to bang it with the back of a knife to crack it open. Two things really annoyed me! One was the price of Scottish mussels costing £29 for what is described as a large portion. First of all when I saw a pot arriving at a neighbouring table, I would not have really said it was large and secondly how can one price mussels the same as scallops. Mussels also take a lot less efforts from the chefs to cook them and therefore less time. The second issue was my espresso! As you can see from the photo it looked very flat and luckily our waitress Kate N. took it back and made one herself which was notably better but still not great. Yes the crab shack is not a coffee shop but like any French or Italian person I love finishing a good meal with a good espresso. It is not difficult to produce a very decent espresso with nice créma on top. Luckily Kate N. our waitress was faultless and delivered an exceptional table service. I made a point of complimenting her and knowing she was a physiotherapy student, I told her that if she is as good as a physio as she was a waitress tonight, she would go very far in her career.”

“Used to dine in their original restaurant in Finnieston, this outlet is so much bigger and well decorated. Attentive and friendly staff. The seafood was fresh and very well cooked. A little pricey but well worth it.”

“Fantastic seafood quality and a lovely atmosphere at Crabshakk Botanics. The clams were fresh, generous, and full of flavour — exactly what you hope for from a seafood restaurant. Now, I must confess: I am Neapolitan… so pasta for me is almost a religious matter 😄. The linguine were slightly overcooked for my southern Italian standards — but perhaps that’s just my DNA speaking. Luckily, the quality of the seafood more than made up for it. Overall, a very enjoyable experience, and I’ll happily return… maybe next time with my Neapolitan passport hidden in my pocket. 🇮🇹🦪”

“Sister restaurant to what we now call the “Wee Shakk”, with all the original classics you know and love, and then some. As ever, championing Scottish Seafood and local suppliers. Pop in for a cocktail or two, a glass of champagne & some oysters, or maybe a whole turbot. . .”
