Quick info
About Ka Pao Glasgow
Ka Pao Glasgow is a Southeast Asian restaurant in Glasgow, set downstairs at the Botanic Gardens Garage at 26 Vinicombe St, so the dining room sits below street level. The kitchen cooks in a Southeast Asian-influenced style and serves sharing plates, so tables order several dishes together. Chilli and lime leaf cashews and peanuts come as a starter, skewers include beef short rib with pickled turmeric, and coconut pandan soft serve is on offer for dessert. The bar pours cocktails and wine by the glass, and the team guides diners through the menu and answers allergy questions. The restaurant opens daily and runs a lunch deal. Bookings are taken through its website, and a wait-list handles walk-ins on the day. It is the sister restaurant to Ox & Finch.

Customer Review Summary
Chicken is the dish reviewers name most, with the fried chicken and the BBQ chicken with caramel fish sauce both singled out. The squid, the halibut with citrus and macadamia crunch, and the beef short rib skewers with pickled turmeric come close behind. Diners also mention the celeriac curry with crispy kale, chilli and lime leaf cashews, and coconut pandan soft serve. Most describe bold, flavourful sharing plates and staff who guide the menu and handle allergy questions, and a couple call the lunch deal great value. Complaints are scattered but specific. One reviewer found the beef tongue too salty and the cucumber salad basic, another disliked the industrial stairwell entrance, and others mention heavy doors and poor toilet lighting. One reviewer reports a long wait to order, a missing dish the waitress said she had forgotten, and spilled wine left on the table. One suggests ordering a few dishes at a time instead of all at once.

“Oh my god, where to start from? What a find. I swear to god its just what i needed on the night after a long shift. The food is just amazing and the vibes of the place are so relaxed and comforting. Highly recommend the team members, super nice and knowledgeable about the menu even for giving recommendations and for allergies. Very much appreciated with them checking back for some specific things. Apart from that, all the food we tried had gorgeous flavors. My most favourite was the one with mushroom (cannot remember the exact name but its in the picture right next to the rectangle plate). MUST TRY! Also the sides looked lovely but we just had aubergine: spicy but amazinggggggg…”

“Outstanding food (amazing flavours & presentation), great attentive staff and chilled ambience. 💯 recommended but please put a sign on the doors saying they are heavy (& which way they open) & seriously folk, the lighting in the toilets is so, so poor. Sort these things and we are a 9.5 / 10 xx”

“Went for lunch so the place was rather quiet but I imagine it’s buzzing in the evening. Really great lunch deal; incredible value. Great option for Asian if you’re in the area/ visiting the botanic garden.”

“Excellent choice for dinner. James was terrific with great suggestions and service. Great value for the amount of food. The BBQ Chicken with Carmel fish sauce was terrific. Every other dish solid and flavorful. We ordered all dishes at once and I recommend ordering a few dishes at a time instead..”
