Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the food, naming the pork with black pudding on smooth mashed potato and the spiced plum crumble, with a chocolate torte close behind. A birthday party of ten that pre-ordered a few days ahead enjoyed fabulous starters, duck, lamb shank, pies and fish and chips, and several call the food tasty for the price. The setting is described as a warm, cosy country pub with rustic decorations, outdoor tables and a peaceful beer garden. Reviewers repeatedly mention friendly, welcoming staff who could not do enough for them, and one visitor says the owner spent a good while chatting as a wonderful host. The only criticism is one reviewer's onion rings, which were overcooked and greasy, though still tasty. One diner watched a neighbouring table ask for cod that was not on the menu, and after a quick check with the chef it was sorted.

“Birthday celebration meal on a Saturday afternoon. A party of 10. We had to pre order the food a few days before but when it came it was worth it. Fabulous starters, excellent duck, lamb shank, pies and fish and chips. All thoroughly enjoyed. Good efficient friendly service.”

“We stayed in Kempsford and had a lovely meal at the pub on a Friday night. The food and service was fantastic. They couldn't do enough for us. The pub is very pretty and cosy inside. We would definitely come again if in the area.”

“Loved it. Food delicious, lovely warm friendly atmosphere. Lady serving us..possibly the landlady..was so helpful and accommodating..nothing was too much trouble. I noticed that diners at table next to us wanted cod ( which wasn't actually on the menu) and a quick check with chef and it was sorted. You dont get this service usually. I thought that was brilliant! Thanks for a great evening..wish we lived closer so that we could come again”

“The George at Kempsford is an absolute gem, and we will definitely be returning. There is a large car park, plenty of outdoor tables for dining, and a spacious, peaceful beer garden. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, as were the locals, which immediately gave the pub a lovely atmosphere. Booking through the website was simple and worked perfectly. When we arrived, the staff found our reservation straight away and had us seated without any fuss. The indoor dining room has a wonderfully warm and cosy feel—not small or cramped, but comfortable and inviting. The rustic decorations give it exactly the sort of character you hope to find in a traditional country pub. Everything was clean, including the tables, and the staff were attentive throughout without ever being overbearing. Our food arrived quickly, was piping hot, tasted excellent and represented very good value for money. The only slight criticism was that my onion rings were a little overcooked and greasy, although they still tasted great! Overall, we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Great food, friendly service, a beautiful setting and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended.”
