Customer Review Summary

Diners most frequently single out the Sunday roast, praising its generous portions, quality, and abundance of gravy, with the cauliflower cheese and ginormous Yorkshire pudding repeatedly highlighted. Close behind are the steak baguette and massive burgers, both noted for high-quality meat and satisfying size, while the ham and tomato sandwich on tiger bread with fries also earns specific acclaim. Several describe attentive, welcoming service and a warm atmosphere, with one party of 20 noting clear wheelchair access and effective ordering in the heated marquee. A few mention the chicken nuggets and pizza as hits with children. One reviewer reports a delicious pint of bitter.

Claire and Darren were so helpful and open when I went to them needing to feed 12 Brownie Guides at a sleepover up the road. I went in to see them and Darren gave us all the options and we went with chicken nuggets, pizza and chips with carrot and cucumber sticks on the side for all of us! The food was delicious and most of the girls said they liked the nuggets more than McDonald's (and the adults agreed too!). A big big thank you from 1st Abbey Meads Brownies we really enjoyed our tea for the sleepover and will be back again next time!

Recommended by family who are roast snobs and foodies. First visit and it was the best roast dinner I've had in Swindon. And actually anywhere. Very reasonable, plenty of it, staff attentive and genuine, fresh and homemade, lots of gravy and extra for free, cauliflower cheese to die for. The area is hilly but makes a nice pre or post dinner wander. Would highly recommend to any roast dinner fans. You will not be disappointed.

Party of 20 (mixed adults and kids) for a wonderful Sunday Roast lunch. We were seated in the marquee which was heated due to chilly morning. The Landlord was available to make sure access was clear for the wheelchair. Ordering was done effectively with the 2 charming waitresses and nothing was too much trouble. The choice of roasts was very good (beef, pork, lamb, turkey, gammon or veggie) and was one of the best roasts I have had in and around Swindon. A full plate and additional veg/gravy on request. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Heart in Hand. From staff, to location to great staff. Thank you.

This is a lovely pub, we came here on a Sunday for my Nan’s birthday. The roast beef was delicious, and the portion size was brilliant. Generous with all the trimmings including the gravy and the Yorkshire pudding was ginormous. Staff was really welcoming, friendly and attentive.

I popped in for a pub lunch after a walk. Wasn't expecting much. But had a great pint of bitter and a surprisingly good steak baguette. I don't anticipate much for something like this, but the steak was high quality and beautifully cooked. And the service was so nice. A small experience but much appreciated.

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
