About Chimneys Hooton Wirral

Chimneys Hooton Wirral is a pub on Hooton Green in Ellesmere Port, named for a roofline of more than a dozen chimneys. Cask ales are served by open fires, and the main fireplace has just two tables either side of it. The kitchen cooks pub dishes such as beef shin with creamy mash, fish and chips, and a Sunday roast with belly pork, beef and turkey. Dogs are welcome. A large car park on the premises is free to use.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the roast dinners and hearty mains, with the beef shin and creamy mash singled out by one table of four as comfort food, the beef falling apart and the marrow bone a great touch. Close behind, the Sunday roast draws praise for belly pork, beef and turkey with top gravy. Others name the fish and chips, oven-baked mushrooms, ribeye steak, Korean spicy pizza, mackerel pate and forrestiere chicken, and a mini crumble with custard rounds off one meal. Draught beer, including Peroni and Guinness, gets a mention, as does the open fireplace. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, attentive and helpful, and one diner notes the kitchen is free of peanuts and tree nuts. The main complaints are small: one regular found the woman handling seating unwelcoming and was turned away while tables sat free and the restaurant was nearly empty, and another found the meals marred by flies. Several walk-ins on a Sunday were seated without a reservation.

“The older lady with brown hair dealing with seating very unwelcoming. All the other staff are lovely, and the food is good. Rejecting customers when there’s free tables without reserved and a restaurant near empty. Such a shame as I was visiting regular”

“We stopped by on our way home, never been before and it was just lovely place with very friendly staff and nice food. Thank you for having us without reservation on Sunday 🤗”

“Not our first visit, neither the last. We decided to dine out last minute. From the starter to desert, couldn't fault it. Ribeye steak delicious, deserts heavenly and well presented (compliments to the chef(s) The only downfall were the flies that mithered us at each meal. Perhaps, a solution to be considered as it's quite unpleasant to eat while constantly waving your hands in the air, getting flies off the food : ) Overall great, we will definitely come back !”

“Had a wonderful roast dinner with my family today. The service was excellent and Mark was really funny and attentive. Highly recommend!”
  • Ruth Sadik
“The best Vintage Inn Ive eaten at in a long time. Four of us went. Lovely warm welcome to this newly refurbished pub. We all ordered beef shin with creamy mash as the weather was cold and rainy and this proved to be the ultimate comfort food! The carrots were cooked to perfection and had a distinctive smokey flavour that went perfectly with the gravy/sauce that saw all of us running our fingers around the dish to get every drop! The beef fell apart and the marrow bone was a great touch. Although perfectly repleat, the lure of a mini crumble with coffee was a step too far and had to tested. It came up trumps with tart fruit that was beautifully complimented by the sweet creamy custard. The staff were amazing and our young server had an amazing memory and lovely smile. Although two of the party were fairly regulars, two of us were first timers but definotely will be next timers! Thank you.”
