Customer Review Summary

The caveats are specific. One reviewer calls the service some of the worst in Edinburgh, describing being rushed to order, no check-backs, dirty plates left for around fifteen minutes and a bar worker who said the problem was not his. Another had trouble getting attention for drinks and the bill. A steak was sent back as tough, though it was swapped without fuss, and one found the bottom of the salt and pepper fries overly seasoned. Several suggest booking ahead, since walk-ins end up at the large bar.

“Some of the worst service I’ve experienced in Edinburgh. I’m very familiar with Signature Group venues and usually rate them highly, which made this visit even more disappointing. We arrived around 30/45 minutes before the kitchen closed and were told to order within seconds of sitting down, the waitress never left the table and made us order on the spot. She (dark blue hair) was dismissive and rude throughout - no allergy check, no drink top-up offer, and no check-backs during the meal. The food itself was good, but my partner wanted mash with the steak pie as listed on the menu, and the waitress walked away so quickly I didn’t even get the chance to ask. After finishing, dirty plates were left sitting on the table for around 15 minutes before we eventually had to go up to the bar ourselves just to pay, as our server walked past several times ignoring us. I tried to raise the issue with Oskar (name on the receipt), but his response was simply, “I’m just on the bar, not to do with me,” which only added to the frustration. I’d previously left a positive review highlighting Matt’s excellent service, so this experience was a huge let-down in comparison. We were deciding between here and Monties over the road for the evening, and sadly we’ll be choosing Monties next time.”

“We came here from the States visiting Edinburgh and they have the best Cheeseburger and fries ever!! We also had the Chicken Burger and it was so tender. The wait staff are absolutely amazing The atmosphere is totally laid back and the decor is beautiful. The pricing for everything is very reasonable We were so very fortunate to be able to get in reservations are recommended but we were able to get in without one. I just want to say the chairs in this place are so relaxing you'll want to sit in there forever ☺️ the best food so fresh and delicious!”

“We were there at 11am on the 7th of March 2026. The day that saw Scotland achieve a stunning victory over the French rugby team!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️) A party of 12 having breakfast and drinks. Despite being absolutely crammed with pretty much every table full, they dealt with getting the food and drinks out with great aplomb and good humour. I had the Croque Madam which was very tasty and filling with a Bloody Mary which was delicious and refreshing. Everyone was very pleased with the food and portion sizes. The decor and furnishings are lovely and comfortable and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.”

“McLaren's on the Corner is, surely, an icon of the area. On Holy Corner, I see it as the gateway to Morningside as I approach from the city centre. Expect good food and drinks over two floors, and with outside seating. I've only ever been upstairs while part of a private booking and I suspect it only opens for those. Staff have been excellent reach time. Once a bank, the building puts a large bar at the exit and if you don't book a seat then this is where you'll end up. Otherwise, if you book in advance (and booking is recommended) you will end up in a more spacious area and perhaps even by a fancy modern fire pit. The food is good. I usually go for one of the burgers and have never been let down. I'd recommend the chicken burger or G.O.A.T. The chips are a little scarce, but tasty, and adding a side like Mac Cheese is entirely justified. Dessert is a little bit more of a gamble, it's generally good but I've been disappointed that lush treats like Knickerbocker glories have erred on the conservative side. As McLarens on the Corner is excellent for large groups, you might want to have second thoughts if you don't like large groups. I've been surrounded by men in kilts on two separate occasions and make of that what you will.”
