About Fortune Palace
Fortune Palace is a British Chinese takeaway at 130 Colinton Rd in Edinburgh. The menu includes a munchi box, which puts chicken balls and crispy seaweed together and comes with a curry sauce on the side. Char siu chow mein is served in a tub, and honey sesame chicken appears alongside fried rice. Chips and other rice dishes round out the range. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply on the food. Supporters return for the char siu chow mein, described as tasty, hot and packed full, and praise generous portions, full flavour and cooking that is not overly salty. One calls it a traditional British Chinese takeaway, and others note orders arriving hot or warm and on time, with phoning ahead and collecting described as faster than delivery. Critics point to chips soaked in oil, greasy spring rolls and chicken balls that soaked through the bags, and fried rice with no soy sauce or seasoning. Honey sesame chicken was called bone dry, and another reviewer found the chicken tough and fatty with chewy gristle. One regular received a munchi box missing its chicken balls and crispy seaweed, with nothing of similar value added. Delivery drew a complaint too, with one reviewer saying a very late order went unanswered by phone despite a much shorter estimate online. Still, one diner recalls asking by phone to swap ingredients, and the kitchen did it.

“Awful! Chicken is tough and fatty - very single piece! Chewy gristle, shocking for £16. Will never use again and would not recommend.”

“Super greasy spring rolls and chicken balls, the bags were soaked through. Chips tasted like they’d been reheated. Chicken udon dish and rice dishes were ok, although the rice looked like the soy sauce had only been wafted past it. Not good and wouldn’t go back. Our usual place was closed for Chinese New Year.”

“I have no idea what happened to my usual munchi box which is regularly ordered from here and the best in town. On this occasion there were no chicken balls at all, and they removed the crispy seaweed and the request was, if you do. Can you add an item of similar value. Which the Take Away did not, Very disappointed as a regular , good customer. Marc , Dumbryden Drive”

“My favourite place for Chinese food in Edinburgh. Great food, value and service. I live locally, so usually phone and collect - they are quite rightly very popular for delivery, so a collection is much faster. My go to dish is their char siu chow mein - it is always tasty and hot, and the tub is always packed full. Amazing value for just over £7. Delighted that you are within walking distance!”

“This is easy one of the best Chinese takeaways in town. I’ve been eating from these guys for years and they’ve always delivered on time the best food in generous amount so happy you exist!”
