About 1886 Restaurant @ Braid Hills Hotel
Tables at 1886 Restaurant look out over Braidburn Valley Park, and the dining room sits within the Braid Hills Hotel on Braid Rd in Edinburgh, feeding overnight guests alongside people arriving just for a meal. Customer Review Summary
Hearty Scottish mains anchor most accounts: a steak pie and fish and chips called exceptional over a week of repeat orders, with fish described as fresh rather than frozen, and a Sunday roast praised for prime cuts. Close behind is the afternoon tea, where a party including a coeliac diner credits the kitchen with light homemade gluten free scones and singles out the haggis bites and the smoked salmon pate. Also named: lamb rump with orange sauce, the Scottish Sunday dessert, and mussels judged fresh though small in portion for two adults. Several mention views over Braidburn Valley Park and outdoor seating in the evening sunshine. Two accounts run counter. One describes steak ciabattas served cold, remade and still uneatable, followed by a dispute over paying and staff who had to be sought out to clear plates. Another lists a sticky table, a starter and a glass of tap water that never arrived, while crediting the allergy checks. One reviewer, calling the dining room average rather than swanky, recalls the kitchen sending out complimentary red lentil soup.

“While the food was perfectly acceptable the table was sticky, our starter never arrived, half way through the main course we were interrupted so the extra starter cutlery could be removed and the glass of tap water asked for never arrived either. They did however do well with allergy checks. Very much only for those stuck at the hotel!”

“I stayed for a week, and got the steak pie and fish & chips multiple times, and both were exceptional, and the fish was fresh, not frozen. The Sunday Roast was also excellent with prime cuts. The staff was friendly and attentive! Thank you!”

“Fantastic place for a bite! The building is super cute and has a great view. I had the Lamb Rump which was absolutely heavenly with the orange sauce. For dessert I had the Scottish Sunday which was perfectly sweet and a wonderful end of an evening. The service was very nice. No complaints! A very nice place to eat.”
