Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the steak, from the steak frites on the fixed price menu to a shared côte de boeuf described as cooked and seasoned to perfection. Close behind are starters and desserts, including charcuterie, souffle, potted crab, chocolate mousse and a cherry chocolate crepe, plus the free flow fries. Several describe a welcoming room and staff who found seats without a reservation, and one parent notes plenty of gluten and dairy free choices. Service draws the sharpest complaints. One reviewer describes being scolded for seating themselves, menus and a napkin thrown onto the table, and a crumb-covered table, and wonders whether racial bias was involved. Another says scallops arrived lukewarm or cold and a Caesar salad was sent back. A Valentine's Day party waited for plates, broccoli and fries while the steak went cold, and the bill came unadjusted after the manager was told several times. One breakfast diner found the French toast looked different from its advertised photo, and one wishes the steak tartare would return.

“We have never used this chain before but gave it a go in Edinburgh earlier this week. The staff there are just lovely and we found the service to be excellent. There was a very welcoming atmosphere and although the restaurant was much larger than we realised, it felt cosy and we were seated to avoid being directly next to others so we had plenty space but still surrounded the buzz of our neighbours. There is a great selection of dishes to choose from and pricing to suit all. We ordered from the fixed price menu and our meal was delicious and good value. The free flow french fries are a great idea too. We chose the leek and potato soup, steak frites and then ice cream and the cherry, chocolate crepe. It was all fab!”

“Was here today with 5 friends and was very disappointed in both the food and service. About 4 of us ordered scallops which were Luke warm / cold when they arrived. I ordered the Caesar salad which was basically leaves on a plate with a dollop of shredded chicken, I could’ve done a better job at home! The chicken had some sort of herb thru it so sent it back. The waitress was so bad I had to go to her to order more drinks, the service was very poor. Very disappointed today don’t think we’ll be back”

“We visited on a Friday evening, just two of us. Sat through the back, was really nice inside, quite elegant. For starters we got the souffle and potted crab, both were delicious. For mains we had the half poulet breton and confit pork belly, the chicken was moist and had a wee garlic but on the side, although I'd have preferred a wee garlic sauce to pour over. For desert we had the chocolate praline tart and chocolate mousse. Overall it was a very nice restuarant.”

“Pleasantly surprised by the quality and cost of the food. I went for the charcuterie to start, then the gnocchi to be healthy and then the grand chocolate mousse because I regretted yielding to the tyranny of calories. Staff were great. I booked my table the day before via TheFork and they couldn't find my reservation when I arrived, but got me a seat anyway. Friendly and very patient - my visit was at the time of the year when Edinburgh is filling up with weirdly demanding tourists. Restaurant was clean and I think suitable for everything through friends nattering, to business to a date. Could have done with beer on draught.”

“I had my birthday lunch here and Anna was such a delight – Cote is very lucky to have her! The food is fantastic as usual as we have now been coming here every year. But please bring back the steak tartare!”
