Quick info
About The Auld Hundred
The Auld Hundred is a pub and restaurant at 100 Rose St in Edinburgh, with bare stone decor and a bar on the ground floor where drinks are served. The restaurant is upstairs on the first floor and runs a Scottish menu. It includes haggis, neeps and tatties, with a vegetable haggis as an alternative, alongside fish and chips. Sticky toffee pudding is among the desserts. Live music plays in the pub seven days a week, giving the downstairs bar a second purpose beyond drinks. Dogs are welcome. The team asks about allergies and passes them on to the kitchen.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the dish reviewers name most, with one calling the fish enormous and another urging it outright, and haggis with neeps and tatties comes close behind, including a vegetarian haggis made of vegetables and vegetarian haggis bonbons. Diners also mention leek and potato soup, mac and cheese, a pie, a Sunday veggie roast, and desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and a creamy homemade cheesecake, with a complimentary tablet noted too. Service is described as friendly and quick, and two reviewers with allergies say staff made sure the kitchen knew and avoided cross contamination, while another says they are asked about allergies beforehand. The recurring caveat is seating: several reviewers waited about half an hour without a reservation, one saw many people turned away, and a few suggest booking ahead or having a drink in the downstairs bar while waiting. Reviewers also praise the cozy atmosphere and live music, and one first-time pub visitor from Texas closes with an order of fish and chips, a diet Irn Bru and sticky toffee pudding.

“This was our first stop in Edinburgh for dinner. We were lucky enough to get a table, as the place was full. We decided to go with classics - haggis, neeps & tatties and fish&chips. Both dishes were really tasty and, after trying haggis around other places as well, we can say that this was the best we had. Quick and friendly service, lovely atmosphere, decent prices.”

“My first pub. I love the atmosphere! The fish was enormous!! Great food, excellent staff, and easy to get to from my hotel. I'm from Texas and I know there's a difference between a bar and a pub, but now I get it. This is a small place in comparison to American restaurants or bars, but it's wonderful! I can see why people have a favorite pub, and this is absolutely mine in Edinburgh. Friendly, a good mix of locals and tourists, I'd, it's just different in the best way possible. I got the fish and chips, a diet irn bru, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All I can say is YUMMMM!”

“We had dinner here and the entire experience was flawless from start to finish. A special shout-out goes to Edmund, a fantastic Italian guy who was incredibly friendly, professional, and genuinely kind. Since I have several food intolerances, dining out can often be stressful, but Edmund guided and helped me through the menu with immense care and attention, making me feel completely safe and looked after. To top it all off, he recommended an excellent beer that paired perfectly with our meal. 10/10 service, great food, and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended!”

“We had a really great experience here. As a person who has a severe allergy, The staff here was really great at ensuring that the kitchen staff was aware of my allergy and that nothing was cross contaminated. The food was great! Be sure that you make a reservation as well. We saw them turn away a lot of people due to not having enough seating and already having reservations.”
