About Imperial Palace
Imperial Palace is a Chinese restaurant at 36 Inglis Green Rd in Edinburgh, built around Cantonese dim sum that is served without trolleys. The dim sum list includes chicken feet and steamed beef tripe, alongside a range of steamed dishes. Beyond dim sum, the kitchen cooks Szechuan and Cantonese dishes, and Beef Ho Fun, stir fried beef with wide rice noodles, is one of the noodle plates. Set lunch menus are available for midday visits. The restaurant opens every day of the week except Wednesday, so Wednesday is the one day to plan around.

Customer Review Summary
Dim sum draws the most praise here, with reviewers singling out the cheung fun, siu mai, char siu bao and char siu puff, plus steamed dishes served at a good temperature. One diner who grew up in Guangdong calls it among the most authentic Cantonese dim sum in the UK, though another finds the cheung fun average. Close behind are the shredded beef with noodles and the beef ho fun, along with tofu, pork and seafood dishes, and several mention huge portions. Staff are described as welcoming and helpful, with one table receiving a free starter and packed leftovers. A few reviewers recommend booking on a busy Saturday. The criticisms are specific. One diner found the roast duck under cooked and pale, with the skin not crispy, and the roast pork mostly fat and skin. They say staff explained the colour by a torch and then dark soya sauce, and the owner offered compensation. Others object to an unannounced 10% charge on the bill and a charge for plain hot water, and the free starter and packed leftovers are what some diners remember most.

“After researching food spots to try in Edinburgh, I came across this lovely restaurant on social media and I’m so glad I found it. There was plenty of seating inside, and the staff were pleasant and welcoming throughout our visit. They’re well known for their dim sum, and it certainly lived up to expectations. We also enjoyed the tofu and pork dishes, which were equally delicious. The restaurant was filled with Chinese diners, which added to the feeling of authenticity and made the experience even more special.”

“Came here specifically for some Cantonese Dim Sum. The steamed dishes were impressive and served at a perfect temperature. The Cheung Fun were a bit average. Also, quite surprised that they charge for plain hot water.”
