About Chinese Manor House

Chinese Manor House is a Chinese restaurant at 2 Glasgow Rd in Edinburgh, on a corner of a roundabout system. The kitchen cooks Cantonese specials, and the menu also carries vegetarian and vegan options and a lunch menu. Service is at the table, where the waiter serves fried rice onto each diner's plate. Dinner plates stay on a warmer until the food arrives, so they are hot when the dish reaches the table. A private room is available for functions and large groups. Reservations are taken for groups, and walk-ins are also seated on busy nights.

Customer Review Summary

Prompt, friendly table service draws the most praise, with reviewers describing busy Tuesday and Saturday evenings where food still arrived quickly, and a group of eight was helped with menu choices. Chicken and cashew nuts, beef chow fun, shrimp and the hot and sour soup earn the warmest words, and several call the food tasty and beautifully presented. Consistency draws a split. One diner found the spare ribs dry and overcooked, the beef black bean gloopy and flavourless, and the Szechuan chicken in an unpleasant thick sauce, with only the side noodles spot on. A former regular found the salt and chilli chips like a local takeaway and the service a little abrupt. One longtime customer notes that parking means hunting for a space in nearby streets. Another describes dinner plates kept hot and a doggy bag for the generous leftovers.

“My husband ordered the shrimp, and I had the beef chow fun. We couldn't believe we finished everything—it was just that good! Every dish was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. We'll definitely be back!”

“Very busy when we arrived (about 15 mins early). Many people placing takeaway orders. Staff dealt with them all very efficiently. Our table was made ready. Wide choice on the menu. Excellent waiters, hot tasty food (too much of it - we got a doggy bag to take away). Our only issue is a long-standing one with this restaurant (we've been customers over 20 years) is the lack of parking. The restaurant is on one of the four corners of a roundabout system with only 3 or 4 parking bays inside a back gate. For the majority of customers it is a case of hunt for a parking space in a nearby street. Not the restaurant's fault - it cannot help the location. Be prepared to need extra time to find a parking space. Everything else is very good and well priced.”

I would recommend The Chinese Manor House to anyone. They also have a reasonable lunch menu. Thank you for making my Diamond Anniversary so memorable.”

“Nice restaurant was a favourite at one time. Not so much niw give it a miss for a while .service coud be better a wee bit abrupt as if it's a order to put a smile on the curry too spicy this time 1 main ok out of 4 with no issues. The salt and chilli chips the chips where awful just like a local Chinese takeaway at home not impressed. 10/10 for the hit and sour soup Not got a look in to cool jade along the road”

“We got a table for 2 as a walk in on a Tuesday night, and for a Tuesday it was lovely to see it so busy. This was our first time in the Manor House and we were pleasantly surprised by the service and quality of the food. All the staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was impeccable! We will definitely return!”
