About New Lucky Home
On Groathill Rd. N in Edinburgh, New Lucky Home is a Chinese takeaway at number 8A. The menu includes a dish called Happy Potatoes and a boneless munchie box that comes with chips and spring rolls, which puts a full mix of items in a single order. Beyond those, the kitchen cooks lemon chicken, oyster chicken, prawns with mushroom and chicken fried rice with curry sauce, and tofu is on the list too. A mixed starter is available, and a set menu for two covers a shared meal. The shop opens evenings only and closes on Tuesdays. Custard cakes are sold as a dessert.

Customer Review Summary
Generous portions and piping hot food are what most positive reviewers return to, with a special set menu for two, a mixed starter and well-cooked tofu singled out. Reviewers describe the shop as clean and the delivery as polite and speedy, and one regular has ordered for three years. Salt and chilli chicken splits opinion: one diner found it very tasty, while another found it salty and bland. The complaints are specific. Two reviewers say the munchie box held more chips and spring rolls than chicken, and one reports undercooked rice in the chicken fried rice. Others describe soggy, over seasoned Happy Potatoes, bland custard cakes, a curry sauce with a weird taste, and oyster chicken and prawns with mushroom that were bland and watery, while one calls the food rancid. Among the praise for big portions, one reviewer says the shop added extra starters and gave lovely dolls as a Christmas gift.

“Tried this after seeing a social media review the guy who reviewed it must have been paid this was the worst food I’ve ever had delivered nothing was good rancid eat here at your own peril”

“Decided to try this after seeing a Facebook 'influencer' video by Joshy B. Whilst the food was fresh and delivery polite & speedy, the taste was a huge, awful let down. The 'Happy Potatoes' were soggy and over seasoned, the custard cakes are bland and nothing to write home about (although the presentation is really nice but not worth £3.50 for basic bland sponge). Curry sauce had a weird taste and the salt & chilli chicken was salty and bland (not enough garlic or chilli perhaps?). Majority ended up in the bin. An overpriced disappointing meal. Wanted to love this as we're local but will stick to Sky Garden in Blackhall in future. Sadly wouldn't recommend.”
