Quick info
About The Tickled Trout
The Tickled Trout is a British restaurant and gastro pub on Valley Road in Dronfield, set in the Derbyshire countryside with walks in the surrounding countryside. The kitchen pairs a cod Scotch egg starter with a trout main served over tagliatelle, so the menu covers both a lighter opener and a fish plate. A Sunday roast arrives with beef, pork, greens and gravy. The building has been refurbished and includes a bar area. A private dining room gives groups a separate space for small functions and private hire. Dogs are welcome, which suits visitors who come in after a countryside walk.

Customer Review Summary
The cod Scotch egg is the dish diners raise most, described as perfectly crispy outside and unctuous inside, with one calling it one of the best starters they have had. Close behind is the beef, from the most succulent beef one diner had eaten to a Sunday roast of tender beef, tasty pork and plenty of gravy. Also named are pil pil prawns with a kick, a halloumi and beetroot salad, and two desserts ordered by one reviewer who could not choose. The main complaint is the signature trout: one diner found it little different from smoked salmon, though the tagliatelle alongside was great. One reviewer calls the meal not cheap, with drinks adding to the bill, while others call the value fair and the portions massive. Service is repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and one table had the chef come over to check on them after the meal.

“Wow, wow, wow a stunning meal on Wednesday evening, the most succulent beef I've ever eaten. A beautiful restaurant with wonderful staff, attentive but not too much, we ordered an extra portion of chips to share purely because the looked so good and it was a good call. Price was fair for the quality of the food and excellent service, we will definatly be going back.”

“Beautiful place. The food was absolutely delicious. The cos, scotch egg I had for starters in one of the best starters I’ve ever had. The taste was delicious. Thank you for making my 50th celebration with my husband memorable ❤️”

“Had a lovely summer's walk to this pub for a meal and it was very good. The cod Scotch egg was excellent and my wife loved the Halloumi and beetroot salad. I was a little disappointed that the trout signature dish might as well have been a piece of smoked salmon and was confused when they told me it's pink colouring was because it came from pure chalk streams in Cornwall... As far as I know there are no chalk streams in Cornwall! But despite that the food was very good and the tagliatelle that came with the trout was great. Lovely staff, an enjoyable visit”

“Really very good. Great food to suit pretty much any taste. Good value for quality cooking and ingredients. Service was smooth and very pleasant. And the surrounding countryside is delightful to walk off the massive portions. We'll be back again and will try to steel ourselves for a dessert this time.”
