About The Summer House Sheffield
The Summer House Sheffield is an eclectic restaurant at 289a Abbeydale Rd S in Sheffield, near Dore station. Sunday lunch is served as gluten free dinners of lamb or beef, each with a gluten free Yorkshire pudding, which gives guests who avoid gluten a full roast to order. The wider menu includes a bento box and Gambas pil-pil, and the newer menu adds seafood-inspired dishes. Espresso martinis and other cocktails make up the drinks list. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along for a meal.

Customer Review Summary
Slow service is the most repeated complaint, though reviewers split on the food. Praise centers on the Sunday dinner, with one diner highlighting a gluten free Yorkshire pudding, tasty stuffing and plenty of veg served hot. Close behind are the burger, skewers and bento box, a steak cooked perfectly, a rich brownie, and good espresso martinis, along with big portions and decor described as fantastic and stylish. Several reviewers wait a long time for drink orders, and for food, with one reporting a wait just to get water on the table and another saying nobody checked on them after plates arrived. Two Sunday lunch accounts describe lukewarm food, and one diner was offered extra hot gravy after an hour. Longtime customers say quality and portions have slipped as prices rose, and two object to the service charge on the bill. One reviewer reports no hot water in the washrooms, and another calls the car park a nightmare. Even so, one reviewer who found the drinks slow said the food was too good to stay away.

“Disappointing Sunday lunch. Long wait to order and food took ages to arrive, looked good but was luke warm. After an hour too hungry to send back and was offered extra hot gravy. Staff were apologetic about delay. Some recognition of long wait / cold food would have been appreciated. We used to love this place but won't be back soon.”

“A fantastic new menu at the Summerhouse which we tried for the first time on Sunday some delicious new dishes full of flavour and celebrating seafood inspired from the states. Well done Jack and the team some great new dishes and always a warm welcome 🤩”

“Absolutely incredible food, enjoyed every single bite and can’t wait to com back already. Service was a little slow on drinks/getting the bill however it wouldn’t put me off going back at all, the food was too good!! Very reasonably priced & lovely decor.”

“Mixup with the bill (albeit in our favour), hence a star held back for service, but it was easily and politely sorted out. Otherwise service was very good. The food was, however, excellent (burger brilliant, skewers great, bento box good). Also liked the Gambas pil-pil but it wasn't actually like any Gambas pil-pil I've had before. Very tasty, but maybe change the dish's name? Overall the place deserves the much-maligned "gastro-pub" label. Such a great place, but one which we'd never been to before. It's quite a while since I felt so instantly at ease/home in a new place. We will, therefore, be back, and I fully expect to be updating the ratings to 5* across the board at that point.”

“I’d like to say these are one offs but after the latest visit in a long line of disappointments they’ve had enough chances. The Summerhouse used to be amazing 2/3 years ago but in recent years as prices have increased the quality and portion sizes have gone down. Food is mediocre, takes ages to arrive (30/40 mins for a few salads) but doesn’t taste particularly fresh. Regularly arrives lukewarm or dry as if it’s either from the day before or has been on a warmer for hours. They add service charges onto the bills but they don’t actually provide any sort of service. Some staff are friendly but there are one or two who are quite standoffish and make you feel like you’re putting them out. Everyone’s allowed a bad day but there’s one person in particular who’s bad tempered and unapproachable every time. On a quiet day you can be waiting 15 mins for a drink order to be taken, (word to the wise; order your food with the drinks or you’ll be waiting another 20 mins for a food order to be taken). We understand cocktails take time but when we only order soft drinks we’re still waiting 15/20 mins, even when it’s quiet. There’s no chance to give any feedback or a chance to rectify the issue/s during the meal, because as soon as your plates are down they ignore you until you’re literally walking out. Don’t bother waiting for them to ask if you want any more drinks/desserts/the bill. Just walk up to the till, again, this is their standard practice and has been experienced several times. We used to really enjoy coming here and the food used to be really good but after our recent experiences, particularly the past year, we will be saying goodbye for now.”
