Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise attentive staff and good food, and several first-timers say they plan to return to try more of the menu. A roast, a family breakfast and a hen party meal are all called delicious. One reviewer who hired the upstairs room for a baby shower singles out a spotless room and a buffet with plenty of food for everyone. Others stopped only for coffee and liked the willow tree out front and the look of the food. The kitchen draws the sharpest criticism. One couple found a seafood cocktail that was mostly lettuce and sauce with no prawn, chilly salmon overcooked and burned at the edges, and cold ham and eggs. Another reviewer called an Asian slaw chicken salad awful, citing gristly thigh meat and almost no sauce, and one found the Irish coffee disappointing. When the salad complaint was raised at the till, the price of that meal was taken off.

“Went for my birthday, lovely place, very well decorated. Plenty of tables. We didn’t book, but it was mid week and we were a party of 2, so took a risk. It did get busy after we arrived, but got a table easily. My husband enjoyed his meal. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy mine at all. I ordered an Asian Slaw Chicken salad, which I’ve had at other places and really enjoyed. This time, though, it was awful. The chicken was thigh meat and very gristly and chewy. There wasn’t any grated carrot etc, it was just leaves and a couple of tomatoes. The sauce was almost non-existent. My husband mentioned it on the way out as we paid and the price of my meal was taken off, but it spoilt my birthday meal.”

“For my 1st time of visiting this place The Willow. And when I get the time to vist here with my young lady I would come back for a meal sometime in early part of September this year. Once thing which let the drink down for me was the Irish coffee. And before we left I thank the chef for a lovely meal.”

“We absolutely love The Willows and the history of the building. We decided to visit for the third time yesterday as it was a wet windy day. We decided on the seafood cocktail but sadly it was lettuce with lots of seafood sauce with strips of smoked salmon! I was disappointed at not finding even a single prawn! Afterwards I ordered the chilly salmon. The fish was very over cooked and burned at the edges. My husband had the ham and eggs. The ham looked like boiled ham cut into thick slices and also he complained it was cold! We have visited The Willows in the past and found the food so delicious but sadly this visit was not good. We didn’t complain as we left as we had the most lovely lady looking after us. We enjoyed the ambience but I think the chef needs a little more attention to detail.”
