About Zorba The Greek Derby

Zorba The Greek Derby is a Greek restaurant on Bold Lane in Derby, where the special mezze brings out many dishes and finishes with a final meat course. Meals begin with pitta bread, olive oil and hummus. The grill side of the menu includes a mixed grill for one or for two, with a choice of rice or chips and tzatziki served in large quantity alongside. Halloumi features in dishes such as halloumi souvlaki, for diners who want something other than meat. The meal closes with free shots, and sometimes dessert, from the kitchen. Big group tables are set up for parties, and hen nights are a regular part of the dining room. Greek music plays in the background.

Customer Review Summary

Mixed grill draws the most attention, with reviewers praising the variety of meats, the pastruma in particular, along with plentiful tzatziki and crispy fries. Close behind is the mezze, which a hen party and a family birthday describe as a huge spread of fresh dishes, ending in a meat course the family barely finished. One diner singles out the beef stifado, with meat that fell apart in a thick sauce, and another had the halloumi souvlaki. Portions are described as large or generous by several, and servers come across as friendly, available but not intrusive, and patient in explaining dishes to first timers. The main caveat is noise. One visit was loud because of a work party seated nearby, another found the room rowdy with hen nights and big groups, and one reviewer notes the menu is on the smaller side. Two mention a free shot or dessert on the house at the end, and one large group was happy to be allowed to take leftovers home.

“Recently came here with my friends. Lovely food, we really enjoyed it however, we were not really keen on how i believe it was the owner of the shop was treating one of his employees. We did feel sorry for her as he did shout at her a couple times infront of customers and grabbed her arm pulling her away back when she attempted to take food order from a table. Other than that, great food but really unsettling atmosphere, not sure if I’d come here again as I found it shocking the way he was treating his employee.”

“We went to Zorba the Greek in Derby for a hen do, 11 of us in total, and had such a good time. We went for the special meze and there was so much food! Loads of different dishes came out and everything was really tasty. There was left over too and they were happy for us to take it away. The atmosphere was really fun and the staff were great, especially considering we were such a big group. Everything felt really organised and we never had to wait around for drinks. Everyone enjoyed the food and the quality was really good. The free shot at the end was a lovely little touch too. Would definitely recommend. Definitely going back. We had a brilliant night. Thank you”

“Came here on a recommendation from a friend and gotta say glad we did, lovely cozy place with a nice atmosphere a little noisy as a work party were seated nearby, but lovely nonetheless. Now onto the food, they 1st brought us out pittas with olive oil on and hummus dip, really nice and then we had the mixed grill for 2 they offer rice or chips with but we had half and half. All the meat was cooked to perfection and some of the tastiest I’ve ever tried, the whole thing was sooooooo nice the salad the tzatziki but the meat was amazing, this was probably in my top 5 meals out ever.Reasonably priced too. All in all a great meal and a lovely place with lots of nice staff.”

“A wonderful dinner, I had the beef Stifado. The meat fell apart, lovely little shallots and a nice thick sauce, had chips and rice with it. Next time I'll just have the rice. Highly recommend the food. It did get a bit rowdy with hen nights and big groups eating together. My partner had the Halloumi Souvlaki.”
