About The Potting Shed Cafe
The Potting Shed Cafe is a cafe on Markeaton Ln in Derby, set inside a garden centre where plants, flowers and pots are on sale. Dogs are welcome in an indoor area housed in a special shed, and a separate dog-free area is available for other guests. The kitchen serves the Gardener's Breakfast and a cheese toastie, with cakes and scones alongside. Most things are homemade or locally sourced. Local honey is also sold on site, so a visit can include picking up something to take home. Parking is right outside the cafe.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the cakes and scones, with the garden centre setting a close second. Cakes are called outstanding, with generous portions, and one reviewer says most food is homemade or locally sourced. Close behind are the Gardener's Breakfast, described as delicious and filling, a toasted bacon sandwich, a ham sandwich on a rustic bloomer with crisps and coleslaw, and a cheese toastie with side salad. Chips are called different from the usual style but delicious, and a flat white is described as smooth and rich. Coffee and tea draw repeated praise. Outdoor tables among the greenery and shaded under trees come up often, along with a dog friendly indoor shed and a separate dog free area. Staff are consistently called friendly and helpful, and one group was not rushed out after closing time approached. The caveats are modest: one reviewer found prices a bit higher than expected, one notes limited parking when busy, and one asked for melted cheese on a toastie but the kitchen could not do it. A visitor also bought local honey from the garden centre to take home for their tea.

“Lovely cafe, limited parking when busy but amazing service and great atmosphere and food! Dog friendly indoor seating as well as outdoor seating, also a separate dog free area for those who prefer!”

“Me and my husband came here for a relaxing bite in the nature. We sat outside and there were plenty of spaces which were shaded under the trees from the heatwave. The staff were very polite and helpful and the portions for the cake were very good. We also had the cooler drinks which were very refreshing in the hot weather. Plenty of flowers and plants and even pots to choose from. We ended up purchasing some local honey which we enjoyed in our tea when we got home. We will be back soon hopefully!”

“The Gardener’s Breakfast was such a delicious and filling breakfast, the taste of it was exquisite and I really enjoyed eating it. The staff members were also very sweet and they were trying to serve everything quickly. Would definitely return just to try a scone !”
