Customer Review Summary

The English breakfast is what most reviewers return for, with several calling it large, reasonably priced and not greasy, and singling out the hashbrowns, mushrooms and tomatoes. Close behind is the staff: reviewers describe friendly, fast service, regulars whose custom orders are remembered, and a willingness to change the breakfast to suit. The quiet, welcoming room, a clean hygiene rating and old school cafe feel also draw praise, along with a sausage and egg cob and a bacon and egg cob that others order. Value is a recurring theme in the positive reviews, though not in the negative ones. One reviewer found the breakfast portion small, the sausage skin thick and rubbery, and the coffee spoiled by boiling milk. Another says a bacon and egg cob was overcharged against its listed price. One reviewer reports becoming violently sick within the hour after a sausage and egg cob. Regulars of a few years say the staff treat customers like people they have known for many years.

“Went for a bacon n egg cob and they over charged me £5 from an eye watering £4.65 for 2 rashers of bacon n an egg cob. Daylight robbery…”
  • Carl Rain
“Small portion breakfast, sausage with thick rubbery skin. Please don't serve coffee with boiling milk as it just destroys the flavour and scolds the mouth. Not be going back £10 better spent elsewhere.”

“My nan would take me here in the 90s and I loved it then but didnt appreciate it because I was a snotnose brat. Now in my adulthood, Ive travelled and seen and experienced different restraints and cafes but nothing ever brings me back home to the uk like Britannia Cafe. Especially now Derby has lost all of its charm it had in the 90s, whenever I am forced to enter town centre, I treat my husband and I to this gem and it makes the trip less stressful. The food is perfect. The price is extremely reasonable and in my personal opinion, the atmosphere is home. A warm welcoming even when busy.”
