Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food, singling out generous portions that arrive hot and tasty, such as a gammon and a steak pie, with both starters and mains called delicious. Close behind is the staff, described as friendly and accommodating, with one landlord called helpful and knowledgeable about the beers. A Hobgoblin ale gets a specific mention. Several note a warm welcome and quick service on a lunch break, and a few mention the recent change in management and an interior that felt pleasant and clean. The one recurring wrinkle is thin staffing at quiet times. On a Saturday afternoon, one bar worker was serving drinks, taking food orders and waiting tables, though she was said to handle it well. One couple skipped pudding because the only ice cream dessert, a rocky road sundae, was not vegetarian. Several say they would recommend the pub and plan to return. One family was also handed a colouring page and pencils for their son.

“I just popped into use the toilet after driving from derby hospital and getting caught short The landlord was very helpful and accommodating, I was able to try a couple of pints, as my partner was driving. I spoke extensively to the landlord and he told me about events that take place on the large carpark and entertainment he was hoping to put on in the lounge. It's a good size pub with a good menu and a good range of beers. The manager is pleasant and knowledgeable about their products, and has time for the customers. I aim to call in for a meal ( as they looked really nice) after my next hospital appointment!”

“Came for a meal, first time for many months after changes in landlord. Food was excellent (Gammon self, steak pie wife), well cooked and warm. Hobgoblin ale was good. Excellent service from a pleasant young lady.”

“I take my 93 year-old mother for lunch every now and then, and we feel really looked after. We don't eat or drink a great deal, but that doesn't make a difference. The staff are respectful and friendly, and that means a lot.”
