Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise generous plates, from pizza and a big mushroom open sandwich to a burger with chips served in a plant pot, fish and chips, and a baked Camembert that one pair felt would suit four people. Close behind come the garden room and blossom room, both described as lovely, and friendly staff who altered a dish for one diner's herb allergy and repeatedly asked others about allergies. Sticky toffee pudding, Crunchie and Biscoff dessert sticks and the homemade lemonade also earn specific praise. The complaints concern consistency. One reviewer found the Thai chicken tough and dry under a very sharp lemony sauce, with rubbery prawns, while another disliked an unlisted dressing on the sweetcorn and a very peppery mushroom sauce. A couple of reviewers call the service underwhelming, with some bar staff described as chippy. One table was never checked on during the meal, and the waitress apologised and the diners were given 50% off the food.

“It's OK. Trades a lot on it's name, feels like people go there to be seen to be there rather than going there for the atmosphere or service. Portion sizes are good, quality is reasonable as is the pricing. When we've been there the service has been a little under whelming and some of the bar staff can be a bit chippy. Not as they describe, warm and friendly.”

“Had a lovely meal here! We sat in the garden room, which we always love. Great food, lovely atmosphere, and very friendly staff! For starters, we shared the bruschetta flatbread, which was delicious. I then had the fish and chips for my main, which were delicious too! I would definitely recommend this place for people with allergies as well. The staff asked us on multiple occasions whether we had any allergies, which I thought was really reassuring and showed great care. Will definitely be back! 😊”

“We'd been here before and enjoyed the pizza, so unfortunately this visit was really disappointing. The pub was relatively quiet with plenty of empty tables, but we were seated directly next to a fairly loud table of four and right beside a speaker playing quite loud music. There were much quieter places we could easily have been seated, and we struggled to hear each other properly throughout the meal. Unfortunately the food wasn't much better. My Thai chicken was very tough and dry and the sauce was so overwhelmingly lemony/sharp that I couldn't enjoy it. My partner's chicken was also dry and the prawns were extremely tough and rubbery. At £16–£17 per main, we expected much better. What was particularly frustrating was that nobody came over during the meal to ask whether everything was okay. The staff seemed far more interested in chatting and socialising with the table next to us. When we were eventually asked at the end, I explained that the food hadn't been good. The waitress apologised and actually acknowledged that she should have checked on us sooner. We were eventually given 50% off the food, which we appreciated, but considering neither of us enjoyed our meals and there had been no opportunity to put things right while we were eating, I felt the mains really should have been removed from the bill. A shame because we'd had a good experience previously, but this visit really wasn't good enough.”

“This was such a great discovery! After a lovely morning exploring Keddleston Hall, we decided to find a pub for lunch and came across this place. We ordered pizza, and it did not disappoint! The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the service was quick and friendly. The decoration is honestly amazing and gives the place such a lovely atmosphere. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be coming back again!”

“Attended numerous time. Lovely restaurant for a chilled evening in the bar or celebration meal in the garden room. Always exceptional food, service and atmosphere. Never fails to impress! Good variety of food options and cocktails! Yet to try the pizza’s, definitely be back!!”
