About Gatehouse Tavern
Gatehouse Tavern is a pub in Coventry on Hill St, rebuilt from the shell of the former Leigh Mills gatehouse, so the building itself carries part of the site's history. The bar serves real ales on handpump, including a mild and Church End Brewery's Goats Milk, with a cider alongside. The garden at the rear is large and partly covered, and live music plays in the undercover section. The pub also runs an open microphone night. TVs inside and outside show sports. Dogs are welcome. Pipers crisps and Scampi fries are sold at the bar.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the beer, with six cask ales and a cider on handpump including a mild, and one drinker describes Church End Brewery's Goats Milk as well kept. Close behind is the large rear garden, with plenty of tables and some covered seating, used on sunny days and for live music. An open microphone night, a covered garden gig and televisions inside and out for sports also come up. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, with one bartender described as knowledgeable about the beers, and one visitor calls it a good old-fashioned pub. Food gets a mention too, notably a rump steak sandwich on doorstep slices of hand cut bread with chips and salad, while another visitor found drinks extremely reasonably priced and made do with crisps and scampi fries alongside a pint. The one complaint is a minor problem with a single dish, which the team answered with a full cash refund and a complimentary drink each.

“Very nice boozer in Coventry city centre. It was a lovely day so we sat in the beer garden. Loads of tables and space. Drinks were extremely reasonably priced. They serve food but we didn't get anything. Made do with crisps. They sell Pipers and Scampi fries so both are great with a pint. Would definitely recommend and only a 10 minute walk from the train station”

“July 2026. Popped in for a couple of beers. Opted for the Church End Brewery's Goats Milk. A very nice beer, well kept and served by friendly, polite staff.”

“Hidden gem on the outskirts of the city centre. Welcoming staff, wide choice of drinks including real ales, food available, and many events put on. TV's inside and out for sports.”

“We had a very small issue with one of the dishes, but the team was excellent. They insisted on giving us a full cash refund for it, even though it was only a minor problem. On top of that, they kindly offered us a complimentary drink each. Their approach was incredibly customer-focused, friendly, and thoughtful, which we really appreciated. Thank you very much. We had already loved the place, and this gave us yet another great reason to come back many more times”
