Quick info
About The Greyhound Inn - Sutton Stop
The Greyhound Inn - Sutton Stop is a pub in Coventry, housed in an early 1800s building right on the canal edge, where boaters moor nearby or come in off a canal trip. The kitchen serves a beef, ale and stilton pie and a blade of beef with garlic mash, and the lunch menu adds a ploughman's. Inside, there is a fire to sit by. Around the back, a marquee has its own bar, which gives groups and larger gatherings extra room beyond the main building. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the homemade pies, with the beef, ale and stilton pie singled out for big chunks of meat, and the food generally described as delicious in generous portions. Close behind are the blade of beef with garlic mash, the lamb, the rump steak, the lasagne and a ploughman's one diner called the best in a long while. The canalside setting draws boaters who moor up nearby, and several returned the next day for another meal. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and helpful, and one party without a booking was fitted in without a problem. A marquee with its own bar showed a World Cup match, and others mention a fire and outdoor seating by the water. The only criticism is from one reviewer who found the chilli too mild and a bit tasteless. Others mention a Mother's Day afternoon tea followed by a roast the next day.

“Out for a day’s boating with the family, and stopped here for a late lunch. Couldn’t have been a warmer welcome from everyone on staff, and the food couldn’t have been more delicious. Frankly, much as the day out was brilliant, lunch was the capstone of excellence on a great day. Delicious, generous portions and so beautifully presented too - extensive menu to boot. Best ploughman’s I’ve had in many a moon, but everyone else enjoyed theirs equally! Was their room for dessert? Sadly no – but if you’ve a hankering for more, the puds I saw going past looked as fabulous as the mains. Thanks to all the team for a great experience, and really hope to be back again soon when we’re next in the area!”

“Brilliant meal here today. Great setting, food is freshly cooked and we knew of the great reputation this place has. We were not disappointed. Food was incredible. Good choice of drinks and staff were friendly, polite and professional. Lucas Lily and Josh were working today and all were fantastic. Lucas took time to chat to us at the end of the meal which was appreciated and he is a credit to the team!”

“Lovely homemade beef, ale and stilton pie. Big chunks of meat. Lovely pub and there's a marquee around the back where we are watching the England World Cup match against Croatia. It has its own bar too. Basically, a well thought out pub with great facilities and hospitality.”
