Customer Review Summary
Private dining for family celebrations is the most repeated draw, with reviewers describing a birthday party in the private room, a buffet with plenty for everyone and a lovely gluten free selection, and a gathering of 29 for an 80th birthday. Sunday lunch comes close behind, with one reviewer praising thick, juicy slices of turkey and well cooked vegetables, and another saying portions are big. Staff are described as kind, helpful, polite and attentive, and reviewers also mention the lunch time menu and a friendly feel. One reviewer says they always book a table because some days are very busy. The criticism is sharper but less common. One three-star account says the potato skins arrived as half a new potato, the chicken strips as a single strip, and the chicken burger fillet didn't fill the bun, and it also mentions a ten minute wait to be seated and a chilli with a watery rice side. Another reviewer says the beef lasagna left them coughing all day and compares a burger to a microwaved meal. Even so, that three-star reviewer calls the gammon, egg and chips good, with great portions of chips.

“Really mixed bag - was highly rated by locals who live around the pub, but I had a mixed experience. Atmosphere was good and clean/contemporary. At 4:20pm on a Monday, waited for 10 minutes to be addressed to have a seat and could not sit where we wanted as all the best tables were reserved so lesson learned there. Had lunch set menu of 2 courses (4 of us). Good selection on set menu, and had a gluten free menu available when asked but failed to ask about allergies by waitress on ordering. Starters arrived - 3 different starters ordered between the 4 of us. The potato “skins” were not multiple- it was a half of a new potato with a little well dressed salad. Quality good, but portion was seriously lacking- should have been at least 2 given it was plural on the menu. Same with chicken strips. One strip arrived on a plate and again small, should be at least 2 strips to be called “strips” on the menu but well dressed salad. Baked Brie was lovely looking and a healthy wedge with again a decent mouthful of side salad. Gammon egg and chips good- great portion sizes of chips. Not too much but “healthy”. Chicken wrap and chips also good, but the chicken burger was a bit sad- the fillet didn’t even fill the bun and not enough salad on burger. Lastly, chilli was serviceable and fresh, if not a bit bland, but rice was a bit watery and the sour cream was fake - out of a squeeze bottle and tasted like coconut weirdly. Again, corn chips needed to be a bit more generous to be a portion. Servers were attentive but not persistent and this was appreciated. Did not ask if we wanted more drinks though. Good value, but I don’t know if I would run back, given The Griffin is in the area and I would much prefer this pub for quality and portions.”

“We booked the private dining room for a 40th Birthday Party, from initial enquiry, booking and on the day the team were excellent. The room is perfect for a small gathering with access to outside seating. We ordered a buffet which was excellent & had something for everyone, and plenty. We had requested options for a Gluten Free guest and they went above & beyond to provide a lovely selection. The staff are all very kind, friendly & helpful and we had a lovely afternoon with all the family celebrating. Looking forward to visiting again in the near future.”
