About The Bull
The Bull is a British pub in Colchester, at 2-4 Crouch St, with a garden and a programme built around live entertainment. Bands play weekly, with rock among the music, and karaoke takes place in the garden. Darts and pool are set up for anyone who would rather play a game. The pub also has rooms to stay in, so a night out and an overnight stay sit under one roof. Reservations are required. Dogs are welcome, and door staff work the entrance.

Customer Review Summary
Live bands draw the most praise, with reviewers describing a lively, fun pub with a great atmosphere and really good sound, and one calling a rock act the best performance seen there recently. Close behind are karaoke in the garden, plus darts and pool, which one visitor learned of from staff while watching a band. Several say the entertainment varies through the week, and one credits the pub with a big turnaround into a safe, enjoyable place to drink, with lovely door staff. The criticism centres on service and stock. One regular was waved away dismissively by a barman after door staff asked customers to move inside at last call. Another said bar staff brushed off a complaint about other patrons, and called the food okay at best. A musician noted low stock and a coke that tasted like shrimp water. A guest who booked the wrong night had it sorted by the man on the desk.

“By far has had one of the biggest turnarounds for a pub I've ever seen, the bull used to be doggy but recently years it's becoming more of a hot spot for safe and enjoyable drinking. Really love the atmosphere and bouncers are amazing people.”

“Nice pub and always a goox atmosphere. varied entertainment throughout the week.”

“Meant to stay for the night, but instead within 2 hours of being there I left. Food was okay at best, for what a Greene King is. We asked the bar staff if usually swearing, misogynistic comments and discriminatory remarks are normal from the locals; when asked she said “I didn’t hear any of it”, despite being stood at the bar behind them… Not comfortable at all, especially since it’s advertised as a good family pub. The rooms smelt like sewage and looked like something from a horror film. Grubby towels, dirty floors and paint peeling off walls. When we went to hand our keys back, there was “can we resolve this?” Or “here’s some compensation for not staying”. The customer service is abysmal and the lack of empathy from the man on the desk was apparent of this. Don’t come here.”

“Watched a live band with a great atmosphere, was about to leave when staff told me about karaoke happening in the building out in the garden. Such an entertaining friendly pub. I will be going back as I am told they have weekly bands, karaoke, darts and Pool. Can’t fault the place.”

“An amazing impromptu Thursday down the Bull with Uncle Andrew and his amazing crew of beauties. A special shout out to barfly Dave who is living his best 2 pints life. You are always welcome to sail with this Captain!”
