About The Thomas Tripp
The Thomas Tripp is a pub in Christchurch, on Wick Ln, set in a 1750 hub and serving area-sourced seafood. An outdoor grill cooks food in view, and the menu includes mussels and a Harbour Feast to share. Sunday roast comes with pork shoulder, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the outdoor space, from the large beer garden and inner courtyard to the outdoor grill where diners watch their food being cooked, and several say dogs were welcomed warmly. Food comes close behind. The Trip burger with pulled pork arrives huge, and the Harbour Feast to share, mussels, wings and chips with cheese and gravy all get praise. One regular found a dish improved after it changed from fried to grilled. Staff are called friendly and patient, even during a busy World Cup semi final. The complaints are specific. One reviewer reports sediment in a replacement 49er ale, says the bar staff noted it shouldn't be there rather than offering another drink, and found a Poretti lager below usual quality. A group of eight at Sunday lunch found the live music too loud for conversation. Another couple called the pork shoulder Sunday roast, with crisp Yorkshire pudding and proper gravy, so big they could barely move afterwards.

“Unfortunately, the beer wasn't well kept. Several customers today, including me, complained about the 49er ale. I was given a replacement which was barely passable but I drank most of it anyway, only to find a lot of sediment in the glass. The bar staff told me that it shouldn't be there, instead of offering another drink! I then paid for a Poretti, hedging my bets with a lager, but this was below the usual quality in other pubs. It's a bit disappointing because the pub is very nice. Not sure I'll return, though.”

“Difficult to give a review on this pub bearing in mind I was here watching a World Cup semi final match. However, given that it was very busy, the staff were excellent. Pleasant and incredibly patient. I ordered a Trip burger and was told it would be a long wait but it was fine as I was going to be here for a while. When it turned up it was huge! Really thick juicy burger and pulled pork inside and side of chunky chips. Quite a few beers and lagers on and a large beer garden on the side. Good summer pub. I would come here again.”

“A group of 8 of us visited for sunday lunch. We chose one of the long outside tables where we could all sit together. The food was amazing and the service was fast and efficient. The only downside was the overwhelmingly loud live music which meant that conversation was impossible between our group. Come on guys, it was sunday lunchtime and we do like to be able to chat when we're dining!”

“This place is absolutely BUZZING! A real hive of activity, with a fantastic outdoor space for socialising. They have an outdoor grill, so you can literally see your food being cooked. Everyone is happy here, the service is spot on. Really nice spot. The food is incredible too!”

“Sun 21st June 2026 my wife and I visited for Sunday roast. Both of us had the pork shoulder roast at £20.50 and both of us thought they were astonishing! Possibly the best we’ve ever had (and we’ve had lots!). Amazing pork. Lovely veggies. Crisp Yorkshire pudding. Proper gravy. Big portions. All round superb- and we could barely move afterwards. Thank you. We’ll be back!”
