About The Oak Inn
The Oak Inn is a village pub in Christchurch on the edge of the New Forest, at 57 Martins Hill Ln. A log burner sits inside, and the pub hosts live music and a quiz night for locals and visitors who want more than a drink. The Sunday roast comes with beef or leg of lamb, served with a selection of vegetables and crispy roast potatoes. A pie is on the menu, with potato dauphine as a side, and Fridays bring a fish and chip deal. Cauliflower cheese is available as a side, and the dessert list includes a cherry crumble. The pub runs on a walk-in basis, and that applies to Sunday lunch too.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most praise, with reviewers describing beef cooked pink as requested, leg of lamb, crispy roast potatoes and a surprise spread of eight vegetables. Close behind is the pie, which one diner calls the best filling they have had, a thick and tasty slice, while another says it was particularly good. A Friday fish and chip deal is called excellent value, and one reviewer singles out the gluten free options. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, with two reviewers noting they were fitted in without a booking, and the log burner and live music add to the family friendly village feel. The recurring complaint is pace: one Sunday diner found service very slow, with one bartender and two servers covering a busy pub. Another found the wine too expensive, and a third was disappointed that chips could not be swapped for potato dauphine with a pie. One couple ordered an extra side of cauliflower cheese that was enough for four, then took the leftover biscoff choc pot home.

“Lovely meal here at the Oak. Proper cooked food not the chain stuff, but you get what you pay for. The pie filling best I,ve probably had, really thick filled slice very tasty. Definitely worth a try. Not the biggest menu though but really friendly staff who kept checking on us. Wouldn’t let me substitute my chips for the potato dauphine with my pie , which is available with other dishes and as a side which was disappointing.”

“This was a last minute booking and we were made to feel very welcome for Sunday lunch. The pub has been refurbished since the last time we visited and looked much better. The food was exceptional, I had beef which was perfectly cooked and pink as I asked and hubby had leg of lamb also delicious. The thing that impressed us were the 8 veg which we did not expect but also perfectly cooked, plus crispy roast potatoes! We did order an extra side of cauliflower cheese which was a portion enough for 4! We also had a dessert (cherry crumble and biscoff choc pot with caramel centre) and as expected absolutely delectable but decided to take the leftover choc pot home. The whole atmosphere was very friendly especially Ali who obviously loves her job. There is plenty of outside seating for nice weather and we will be going back for the quiz night as quite close to home. Thank you The Oak and keep up the great work, we will see you soon. Tracey and James 👏”
