Quick info
About The Wight Bear
The Wight Bear is a family-run pub in Bournemouth, at 65 Southbourne Grove, with a menu built around craft beer, craft spirits and wine by the glass or bottle. Guests can bring their own takeaway food to eat at the tables, and the pub also serves cheese boards and pork pies. Music plays from vinyl records, and live artists and musicians perform at the venue. Keg beers are on tap, and a fridge holds cans and bottles of ales, lagers, ciders and spirits, with bottles and cans to take home. Beer paddles put three different beers in one order. There is no real bar, only tables and standing room, so staff circulate to take orders, and a tab can be opened with just a name. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to The Wight Bear mainly for its beer selection, with ales, ciders and keg beers on tap, plus a can and bottle fridge. One reviewer singles out the Paulaner Helles on draught, and another likes the paddles, three different beers for the price of a pint. Origins wines by the glass also get a mention. Close behind is the staff, described as friendly and knowledgeable, along with a chilled out, laid back vibe and vinyl records playing in the seating areas. Several mention the regulars and the live artists who play there. One reviewer notes there is no real bar, just tables and standing room, with people circulating to take orders, and that opening a tab needed only a name. Criticism is limited. One reviewer found the corner guitar a prop that suggested the venue did not care about real talent, and another called the ales a bit pricey while still valuing the rare beers. One reviewer adds that bottles can be picked out to take home and drink later.

“There was a feeling that it might be a free atmosphere for misuc, but picking up the guitar in the corner of the room, which seemed to be left there to promote a higher level of local participation in Englalnd (obviously not the case), it was clear that the guitar was a prop for the venue to distinguish t..hemselves from the local establishments somehow and they were not concerned with actual talent al all.”
